  • Raiders home game

Firstly this is no excuse about the game.

Our home semi final was hijacked last night to become a Raiders home semi. Not sure if it was NRL influence but the SCG trust made it feel like a Raiders home game.

There were Raiders flags flying, the ground announcer constantly pumping up the Raiders crowd and saying “What a great try Raiders, Scream for your team”
The Raiders song blaring over and over again.
They even positioned the media booth for Meninga and Mini in front of the Raiders supporters area.

It was disgusting and would never happen vice versa at Canberra stadium.
I was sitting in the members and fans were absolutely furious.

Did everyone at the game feel the same?

Was at the game, so much Raiders pandering... looking at the advertising board and raiders overload.

NRL Finals are hosted and run by the NRL.

Had nothing to do with the Raiders, Roosters or SCG.

The viking clap was laughable, like 500 Raiders fans clapping in a 50,000 seat arena. Such a cringey look for the game.

The NRL should just let the home club run the game day, they're not only far superior operators but it is a home game after all, trying to create a neutral atmosphere defeats the whole purpose.

NRL wants different premiers every year so its no surprise what they do - I have no interest in viking claps/cow bells or any other clap trap and rigmarole they attempt to conjure up crowd interest and participation at games.

If the NRL keep changing the rules they will actually lose supporters and not gain them. This evening up the comp artificially doesn't happen in most sports world wide or in business and actually lessons the product - a race to bottom approach instead of allowing the cream to rise to the top.

I have not interest or stake in who wins the comp with the exception i hope it's not Souffs and will be a neutral observer - i have more interest in the AFL now since my Richmond Tigers are still in it although a hard prelim in Adelaide vs Port Adelaide.

        The 3 R'S - Roosters/Richmond/Randwick and Sydney FC .

Yep. Last year as well. Home finals games have started to feel like otherwise in recent years - or at least the ones at our home ground
              EASTS TO WIN!

I was thinking the same last night. I heard the green machine song more than the Easts chant song. And when meninga was on the microphone chanting Raiders, I was furious. So much for home ground advantage. What a joke it was last night.

It was disgraceful and really turned people off the game.

yes the NRL run the semi final yet it’s a home semi final and there is no way they would carry on this way if it was at Canberra stadium! Or can you imagine going to Suncorp for a Broncos home semi and them having Roosters flags up, the Easts song blaring and the ground announcer saying “ what a great try let’s go Roosters” Not a chance!
They didn’t do it at Penrith park last week...

The Raiders song was constantly played cause they constantly scored tries.

If the ‘fans’ sitting in the members were ‘absolutely furious’ then something really needs to be done. We really can’t have people who sit in the members going home unhappy cause people who sit in the members are a lot more special than people who don’t.

I realise Mal Meninga's history and connection to the Raiders, but I don't think it is a great look for the current Kangaroos coach to be displaying such partiality to a particular club side IMO.

I was thinking the same when watching the coverage. I couldn't hear the Roosters song when the boys ran out, and could barely hear the Easts and Roosters chants. They sounded better on Channel Nine after I switched off FOX yet again! It was Ginnane and Brandy that annoyed me this time around!
                      MRR or Rabid

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

I’m not 100% sure but I’m pretty sure the roosters raiders game was meant to be neither sides home game. So we were advantaged it was at our home ground - but it was meant to be neutral so they play both sides at the ground as far as songs and bannering etc. felt like it was more Raiders I agree being out there - but besides the horn it was probably even - just that they scored the first three tries - they played their song after each one and its imprinted in our minds - what’s all this raiders bullshit!- then again at the end they play their song as they won. Horrible night as a result but it was more a result of the result I think.

The Penrith game was their home game so fair enough that week.

Funny... standing outside Bruce Stadium (when we won) I didn't hear our so g being played once.

IMO the major annoyance is that the Faders are such d!ckheads about it with their home games. They're the one team that blatantly ghosts the away team.

End of the day it shouldn't phase the players. However, it detracts from fans' enjoyment of the game when you're losing and constantly getting trolled by the media. I mean... when we won the last GF (B2B) we got absolutely NOTHING!!! The media trolled us by saying there was a massive asterix beside it, the refs were shyte and (despite being ahead the whole game) we were somehow outplayed.

Sigh... such is life as an Easts fan. You've gotta soak it up big time when we're winning because there's zero sympathy for us when we're not (which could be the next 3 decades for all I know).

The Raiders fans wont be able to go to Queensland to watch them having been in NSW

Week 2 is always a home game for whichever team finished higher on the premiership ladder. The only exception is that regional grounds such as Brookvale, Penrith Stadium are ineligible and would be moved to Bankwest/ANZ for Penrith or SCG/ANZ for Manly.
