Robbo may not have wanted to him to run the ball who knows and left that up to Keary- Keary was poor the last 3 games and a few times when he ran to the line he threw no look passes behind the support players - sure he had a head knock but he seemed to have lost his confidence from the vermin game and Fittler should really re-consider using him in SOO - i read an article saying exactly that with concerns raised about his current and future health after a series of head knocks and concussions.- I assume walker will be the 5/8 in any case for SOO game 1

The jury is out if Walker is a special kid/talent as he hasn't played footy at any serious level against men and seasoned players only played against boys his own age and hasn't played for close to 12 months - if Lam was in line for the half back spot then why they sign Flano in the first place obviously Lam wasn't in the frame and is more a utility - like Keary Lam is also small and slight too.

Certainly a big step to put a kid into NRL and expect him to play like a seasoned veteran as many expected Flano to do at half and also take on the goal kicking role as otherwise SST will have to - if it doesn't work out what next as obviously if the coach and his team feel the team should win the comp and they don't MORE heads will roll.

It looks like the chooks are getting into a bit of bother with the cap and will have to shed some more players

So what does this say about our recruiters....we have gone down heaps in young talent identification since O'Sullivan left.

Surely with a bit of coaching his running game could have been developed. Now we start from scratch and put a line thru 2021 comp chance.

      But bring on Sam Pearce.
Slamming Sammy Obst who i thought was the ball boy when he ran out for the Chooks in 1st grade - i remember a game against the Dragons when it hailed and he dumped Jason Ryles on his head - Ryles got up to play the ball a bit groggy and played the ball the wrong way and was penalised. Chooks won either 2001 or 2002?

It's not good all this press about dumping Flano surely the club is not leaking this stuff to the media as it's very very unprofessional. Surely they are not at a stage that premierships is the mark of a successful season - what if they do release Flano and Walker/Lam dont work out and they dont win the comp - they then punt Walker and Lam and others? Crazy

Does anyone get the feeling that the Flanagan signing must have been forced on Robbo? He dropped him pretty damned quickly and now appears to be shoving him out the door.

Flanno did far better than I expected of him when signed. Seemed a pointless signing as he didn't appear to be much of an improvement over Lam. But his goal kicking and long kicking game were great assets to the team, his passing was decent, and he had great instincts for support play. His defence was average (expected for a child half) and his running non-existent, but those would improve over a few seasons. Was at least a step up over Lam and likely could have been moulded into a decent partner for a dominant Keary.

I'm really hoping that this doesn't lead to Walker being thrown to the wolves and given the 7 jersey next year. He'll just be crushed by expectations.

Personally I'd rather see us slot Manu into 5/8, shift Keary to halfback, and then that frees up space for Smith to come back in without having to shaft JMoz.

The mid-season rule change didn’t suit Kyles game. He’s solid enough for a half playing his first full season. However the Roosters desire to be constantly challenging to win premierships forced their hand by having to adapt to the new rules and style of play.

          ..it’ll be interesting to see

Mate, i couldnt disagree more. Thats an awful attitude imo.

What has made some of our recent successes are those that have come through our system, who bleed RWB - JWH, Cords, Friend, Aubo etc.

If i had your attitude i simply wouldn't support a club because there woudl be no heart in it.

One of the biggest things i hate about the Premier League etc - and why to this day i still cant get into it despite liking soccer quite a bit - is because there is no soul. It's all hard nosed business. I've never been able to find a team i give a shit about.

NRL is hard nosed business as well, but only to a DEGREE. There are still remnants of tradition and honour that are about (although how long is up for debate).

Keary, Friend, and Radley carried a busted Cronk during the 2018 grand final. If all three were fit they could have carried the kid as well. That doesn't mean we should if it can be avoided.

What a load of crap. Cronk had more influence in that GF when injured, than Flanno will have in his entire career. Nobody carried Cronk. And why should any NRL player need to be carried?!

Maybe he doesn't gell off the field - let alone on it?

it was more a reaction to the Penrith fans saying they would enjoy a win more than us, because they didn’t buy their superstars.

but, if you look at our team this year, we bought teddy, bmoz, jmoz, keary, flanno,SST,JWH,Angus, some will say that they were on the outer at other clubs, they only played a handful of games and so on,

People can argue to their hearts content, but if we didn’t buy Cronk, keary and Tedesco, we don’t win our recent titles.

Cronulla bought almost every player in their premiership win, do the fans care?

there is no escaping buying or recruiting at team, especially in Sydney when we have 9 teams in the one city and geographical disadvantages with junior teams.

                      • Daley is spreading the rumour today that he heard Mitchell Pearce name thrown up as possibly being a rooster again, it has wound up the talkback callers.

who here would take him back?

And play him where? Surely not halfback. Never knocker Pearcey for his effort, he is tough, but too easily distracted and lacks the composure in clutch moments to be a topline half. I think he has value as a lock or hooker or bench utility butt thats it, and never should have been made a captain. He is on huge money at the Knights. Just can't see a place for him.

                              • Why would Pearce leave Newcastle when he is supposedly on around $1m a season. He won’t come back for less.

                                I don’t want him back.
