  • Here is the article talking about Teddy and the money not Flanno. This will clarify confusion in above posts

    https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl...e3bcb19858ce48

The real reason Kyle Flanagan may be forced out of the Roosters before his contract wraps up has been revealed... but it won’t see Mitchell Pearce head back to Bondi.

That is according to The Australian’s Brent Read who gave an update onTriple M as to both player’s contract situations.

Flanagan has been told he won’t be needed at the Roosters past 2021, when his current deal ends.

However, there are reports that they are happy to release him early if Flanagan can secure a deal elsewhere, with the Bulldogs one interested party.

While much has been made of Flanagan’s form, Read revealed that a salary cap squeeze was behind the decision to try part ways early.

“Their issue is I don’t think they budgeted on the Morris brothers and Jake Friend going around next year,” he said.

“Because of that, if you factor in what those three guys are being paid and the fact they have to re-sign James Tedesco beyond next year.

“I’m told his camp is asking for enormous money, he’s looking for probably a three-year extension worth $3.3 million. He’s got one year to go.

“Because of those two factors combined something has to give and Kyle Flanagan has become the expendable player because they have Sam Walker waiting in the reserves.

“I don’t think Kyle Flanagan will be there next year.”

Laurie Daley suggested earlier in the week that Pearce may be heading for a shock Roosters reunion in place of Flanagan.

That has been quickly shot down by Read though along with suggestions that he may be part of a player swap with Mitchell Moses.

Read said he had spoken with Adam O’Brien and the Newcastle coach assured him that Pearce has a long-term future at the club.

“I’ve spoken to Adam O’Brien today, the Newcastle coach, and he said he has spoken to Mitchell several times this week and assured him he has a future at Newcastle,” he added.

“He’s as committed to Mitchell as Mitchell is committed to him.

“Pearce is getting ready to get married now and once he has sorted that stuff out and got that out of the way he will sit down with the club. Adam O’Brien is convinced they will get a deal done with Mitchell Pearce.

“He’s got one year to go, they’ll extend it beyond that. He was stunned by the suggestions of Pearce being part of a swap with Mitchell Moses, that he might be going back to the Roosters.

“Pearce doesn’t want to leave and Adam doesn’t want him to leave.”

Listen to how idiotic that sentence is. Read is effectively saying Roosters had no money in the salary cap for Jake Friend or Latrell Mitchell beyond 2020. The guy should give up sports journalism and take up a career in Tarot Cards. At least some idiots would take what he says seriously.

This line sums up the whole article. HE THINKS but he has NFI.

He also says he spoke to O'Brien but no mention of speaking to anyone in the Roosters camp.

        It is all hearsay.

The media will feed the sheep with absolute BS and then when we sign someone it causes hysteria on how we found this money when we are having cap issues.

Just look at the "poor Gladys" campaign and compare it to the evil bollocking they gave Julia Gillard who also had errant past boyfriend. Gillard was cut nil slack. Ironically, it has come to the point where a News Ltd defence is a sure indicator of wrong doing while a bollocking, not so much.

What everyone seems to forget (conveniently) is that she gave that speech in defence of Peter "James Ashby's Grindr page is down" Slipper.

                • As i posted earlier it was a case of too many halves one had to go and was a salary cap decision - why you would punt your best goal kicker is another issue .

Yes they would not have budgeted on Morris twins going around again in 2021 and maybe not Friend either - he was after a 2 year deal but club only offering a 1 year deal so still to be finalised also as they have Verrills and Lussick-Lam can play some DH too- Tedesco's contract talks are on hold also - the salary cap maybe cut as much as 10% in 2021

It will leave them without a front line goal kicker and turning 4's into 6's is paramount - Walker the experts are saying wont be NRL ready until 2022 so that will leave SST as the main goal kicker and when he's off the field who will takeover?

                    • there was talk that if the salary cap it reduced then existing contracts would be automatically reduced in line with the overall reduction

You reference big Jack a bit...pretty sure he picked the team first, then the goalkicker. Not the reverse.

You can’t get 6’s without getting 4’s first. Poor ol Joey Manu didn’t get enough boundaries
                          ..it’ll be interesting to see

                            spot on.

the Queen sounds like she/he would probably pick Darryl Halligan in front of Tupou or Morris

                              Yes Comrade.

Your MSNBC and CNN are so unbiased. Not to mention Big Tech and the NYT.

In this case it's obviously true. Flanagan is history for us
