(I did have to google who he was!) Even I could tell he was man of the match. He'd need to grow his hair properly and remove all of those idiotic tattoos before I'd have him my team.

AFL though!.....I did see most of it last night thanks to the shorter length of the game this year, which I heard about the first time last night, otherwise I can't sit through much before I get bored. Seriously!......People wank on about how it's a more skilful game! Most of the time that's just based on the fact it is less physical than rugby league, but that's a joke! They struggle to pick up the ball. It looks a complete mess a lot of the time. The only skills are kicking and catching and they can't seem to do that very well most of the time. There isn't a skill in that game (except the stupid way of passing and the once-in-a-game celebrated skill of jumping high by kicking a guy in the back! ) that isn't done in rugby league and done better!

Brilliant athlete who would have succeeded in league if he took it up at a young age.
His three Norm Smiths will probably never be done again.

I think the Dallas Cowboys, Manchester United and LA Lakes are in a bidding war for young Dusty.

Any relation to Dustin Hoffman? Wasn't he a champion athlete in The Graduate before he started munchin' durries and sleeping around? Sad story... IMO he coulda been one of the greats. Like I'm saying better than Cam Smith probably!

I feel ya Ism. The current crop of names are cringeworthy and, it must be said, down to the dim witted ladies who come up with them from the movies - Dustin, Cheyenne (and its derivatives like Shy- Anne), Clint, Chet, Dakota, Montana etc. I was appalled back in the day by "Troy" until a cousin topped it with "Slade". In NZ a government authority vets the choices - too many "Hashtags", "Zin Zans" etc. It's an intelligent nation but there are a lotta dopes over there that's apparent.

Yesterday on ABC Offsiders, Walid Ali nominated Cameron as the best footballer in Oz in any code. I'd go along with that, in fact how about Unca Nick slings him $2m for next season - instantly regained glory the 3peat but one for sure.

Lots of skills in AFL -kicking/catching/handballing/tackling to name a few and you need greater fitness levels as they run a lot further during games than any league player would ever run in a game.

Imagine if there was no 10 metres in league and the defence could be in your attacking line and you had to pass the ball around them or over them to another player in your team as they could catch it instead.- That's what happens in AFL when they kick the ball in a contested situation - attacking players trying to take the mark and defenders trying to stop it and or obtain possession themselves

More people watch the AFL - I am a member of both Sydney Roosters and Richmond Tigers - it is embarrassing though membership numbers - Chooks have 16k or so members and Richmond over 104k

just a pretty ignorant comment because you don’t know the rules and understand the game.

you can only legally dispose of the ball by a hand pass(where you punch the ball on) or a kick.

if you get caught with the ball and had the chance to dispose of it legally you give away a free kick.

so most of the time you find it frustrating and feel like they can’t pick the ball up - they are not trying to because if they get caught with it they are going to give away a free kick. So they do that sort of knock on thing to get around the rule - or if you “accidentally” can’t pick it up you don’t give away a free kick but in effect you are moving the ball to a place where it advantages you or your team.

Barring the $22m click bait, it’s actually a good story.

His manager told of two matching $11m offers he fielded for Martin in 2017 to switch clubs, that were somewhat confirmed by each club. Martin’s manager had to convince him to decline them as he felt Richmond was the better position for him to be in.

Hope we can do that with some of our signing and re-signings that managers recommend they stay for less as they would get better football opportunities with us.
Dustin Martin has made himself into one of the finet players in the modern era with Richmond, but it could ...
                          ..it’ll be interesting to see

Slade great group from the 1970's - Noddy Holder is the best rock'n roll vocalist ever -second Freddy Mercury who Noddy bought his top hat from- the one you see in the clip with the mirrors on it.

Yes holding the ball is a free kick if the umps think the player could have disposed of it so getting rid of it anyway they can avoids this.

In league your not always participating in either attack or defence in sets of 6 though - in the old days the full forward on either side would be camped down their scoring end waiting for the ball to be kicked to them - nowadays players play in a range of positions and need to have greater versatility and fitness as they can sure rack up the KM's during the game.

Gone are the days of full forwards kicking 10 plus goals in a game- Plugger(Tony) Locketts 1360 goals record will be standing for a long long long time and may never be bettered

Players can't pass the ball or throw it and need to handball it which has been the case since day dot
