Just because someone thinks Simms was out of place last night doesn’t mean they are anti-women in sport.

I can’t stand women playing footy but I love watching women’s cricket. I attended the women’s 20/20 final last year with two of my sons. We had a great day and can’t wait to go again.

I think it pretty clear that they are though - i think the only activities they would approve women of being in is jelly wrestling in bikini's or pole dancing.

some of the traditional supporters of the game like it cos it's brutal, tough and dirty and that doesn't sit with the way they view women. fair enough, but if the girls want to play league - and one of the things i have enjoyed about watching the nrlw is the levels of enthusiasm - then you'd have to say that's their call. if you don't like watching them play league then don't watch it but you can't really say they shouldn't play it.

the nrl is trying to promote the game and increase interest amongst girls and women. the argument goes that if they play it right through the juniors then they are likely to become life long league fans of the men's and women's game. in order to survive in tricky times trying to grow the game makes sense.

bit silly recognising someone as the so called pioneer of womens footy when as you said, the game was already invented.

            bit silly or contradictory?

Exactly mate. I enjoy womens sport and my 15 year old Daughter plays off a 6 hcp in golf and has represented the state in Soccer. Ladies Rugby League isnt for me but i still can appreciate it, the 12 for us in the GF was good to watch with her runs...but yes most have missed the point. In the future when the Womens comp has a proper season and the sport has been around in the elite level longer than 2 minutes i think absolutely there is a place for retiring female players to be recognised on GF day..at the moment recognising players that have played 20 odd games at the elite level is an embarrassment. I had mates that played 200 odd games in Metro Cup back in the day and a handful of FG games, should they be able to walk out on GF day ??

Women can play all the sport they want. As they well should but as someone else said, recognising their retirement from a handfull of games in a pretty ordinary comp which is still effectively played at an armature level is surely out of place on GF day with professional players from the mens FG comp.

As I said previously, happy for them to be recognised for their achievements. No issue with that whatsoever but why not do it right before the womens GF instead?

The point is girls could play up to they were 12 then that was it - so she was one of the ones that advocated for the creation for comps for girls and women so they could continue playing. so deserves recognition in my view

No ones denying that but you said the other sports were already invented, so was league. No one is saying she should not be recognised for her contribution and she has been in the past quite a few times however, wasn't the parade on Sunday night was for retiring players, not the pioneer of the game? She was retiring yes, it had nothing to do with her pioneering the womens game. Surely, out of respect to women, it should have been done before the womens game right?

I think you and others are confused in thinking they just play NRLW and a handful of games each year - they play in state comps outside of the NRLW. I'm not sure why Ruan could not be recognised having represented Australia in 2 different rugby codes and 3 world cups/ NSW SOO /Tests/NSWRLW and NRLW Comps etc.

I think maybe the point is the old male ego - a female better at something than they ever were - i suppose these clods check if a female is driving a bus/train or flying a plane and dont get on board cause female's can't do that job only males can.
