  • An interesting year for the chooks in 21

Off the double,a disappointing end to say the least.

you could forgive the boys for having a terrible year next year but that is highly unlikely.
I know there will be some supporters who will feel that we let one go this year but I never really felt that way. In fact, I think they overachieved based on two premierships in a row ...that hasn’t been done for such a long time.

the core group of players is getting older and tired.
Boyd, Friendy, JWH...and guys like Aubo retiring.

    to me this spells danger.
I know we have some great players and a wonderful coach but it’s very hard to keep a squad up for so long.
these blokes have given there all.

I recently saw this video about Aubo from Robbo.

    https://youtu.be/t8ehdkd-LpE

I think it shows how far the club has come since my early days as a supporter in the seventies.
I will have low expectations this year coming. Anything better will be a bonus.

Who knows how things will pan out for 2021. I think the Roosters will again finish around 4th maybe 5th which is better than 11 or 12 other clubs.
    Go the Roosters.

I think with Robbo we are kind of like the Storm. We might not win it but we will be there sniffing around.

So you don't feel that the addition of Rads, Verrills, Smith, a new halfback and possibly one or two more players will improve the team?
You don't think that our younger players like Collins, Sitili, Fifita will improve next year?
You don't think our new halves combo will be better than the Keary/Flanno combo?
You don't think that if our injuries are kinder to us that we will improve?
You don't think that with a full pre-season to adjust to the new rules rather than doing it mid-season that we will improve?

I think next year's comp will be harder to win than this year's because there will be a few teams that appear to be better on paper but I think our squad will also improve.

Im with Mickey and that bloke with the very long balls.

I think we will be solid next year and finish almost where we did this year. Maybe just one spot better. The Storm will be up there as always. It will be interesting to see if the Pamfers can continue like they did in 2021. If intensity is what is needed, that should be very hard to replicate 2 years running. They were pretty special. Just not good enough in the one game that really mattered.

I think it will be refreshing for this group to not have the pressure of being premiers going into the comp - no WCC, I assume no nines, more games at SCG and hopefully a more consistent comp with no (or less restricted) bubble for the players. Everyone will go into the comp aiming up to beat panthers, Storm, Souffs and Raiders with big games. We may just catch teams off guard and that’s an exciting prospect with the talent and experience we still have.

Will also be interesting to have Robbo with a full off season to rethink how we play with the new rules.

I still think we could have won this year if Rads & Verrils were on the park. There's no reason to think we won't give it one hell of a shake next year if everyone stays healthy.

If injuries are kind we will be there at the back end of the season. If they are cruel to us then we may find ourselves having a season similar to 2005.

I think we'll be thereabouts. Certainly top 8. But at this time, I don't think we'll push for the title.

                  Why?

Cordner likely out for the season (or seriously busted/out of sorts if he does - i hope they do the right thing and give him the season off if that is doctors advice)
                  JWH entering his career twilight.
Friend slower and also in his career twilight.
Morris x 2 aging, and although performing well on the field, will both be quite injury prone and we can expect to be missing them for large chunks of the season.
Likely a rookie or a largely unproven Lam in the No.7.

That's enough for me to know 2021 won't be our year.

I've said it before and will say it again, we've buggered up our succession planning a little bit.

IMO, 1 of the Morris boys and Friend should have been given a polite talking to about moving on now.

Positives? Teddy, Keary, Manu, Toupo, Gus, SST and Radley are all top 3 in the comp in their respective positions, and there is no reason to expect they will have a bad year.

                  My ladder for 2021:

                  Panthers
                  Rabbitohs
                  Melbourne
                  Raiders
                  Roosters
                  Sea Eagles
                  Eels
                  Titans
                  Cowboys
                  Knights
                  Broncos
                  Warriors
                  Sharks
                  Dragons
                  Bulldogs
                  Tigers

'Trell mucked us up big time and Smith is no equivalent in the tackle bust department. Keary is out of form but having just the one playmaker doesn't help. Hopefully the youngun forwards will blossom but no guarantees - haven't seen enough of Fifita to have a strong opinion on him but what I do know is that real forward talent is a rarity.

I will be interested to see how our 2021 game will evolve. The power game we have played for some time has taken a toll on some key personnel. Speed and mobility the key and not just versatility like in previous seasons. I expect further rule changes, it’s the norm now due to the NRL partnerships with broadcasters.

We are short two quality forwards. Farmer hasn’t been replaced. I’m all for promoting from within but I don’t think we have any up and comers who are that great. You can just about right Boyd and Jarred off for half a season each. We don’t have the depth like we have had in the past.

How’s Rusty’s Nana Glen chapter coming along in the book of feuds? You know, the one where you guys humiliated and sacked Keary only for him to go on and win back to back premierships with us? We laughed and laughed.

I don’t think Luke was humiliated at all by Rusty, he was just the one who told Rusty to go & fark himself after Rusty gave a bollocking to the whole squad.
