A friend of mine (and fellow Roosters supporter) suggested something to me yesterday, on the basis of nothing. He suggested that the reason why Cameron Smith hadn't announced his retirement, coupled with burying the hatchet with Cronk, is that he's coming to the Roosters for a year to cover the year until Sam Williams gets graded. I put no stock in it as an idea but that would cause ructions if it were remotely true.

Sam Williams is a pretty darn ordinary, journeyman Raiders half. Easily confused with Sam Walker, an up and coming Roosters prodigy.

IMO Smith isn't coming to Easts. Obviously we'd make a spot for him if he did but he isn't a half and Friend's coming off an awesome Origin showing (I dead set have no idea why people who watched Origin would think he's ready to retire - he's hitting his straps and enjoying his footy).

As for his relationship with Cronk, why would you air your dirty laundry? I mean, you can't be best mates with everybody. Smith's book is all about his legacy and he wants the story to be told in a way that's different from how we know it (i.e. he was 100% aware of the salary cap issue, he was a d!ckhead about McKinnon and even his former best mate thinks he's a d!ckhead). He's basically trying to revise history to be like 'the Storm were victims of the salary cap scandal, I wasn't a dickhead about McKinnon and we'll just ignore the one who we don't speak of'.
