ROOSTERS NOT GREEDY – ONE CRICHTON IS ENOUGH

Contrary to some recent media reports, the Sydney Roosters were never in the race to sign Stephen Crichton with the NRL powerhouse banking on Billy Smith to become their next Latrell Mitchell.

Fighting his way back from the ACL injury that robbed him of his NRL chance last year, Smith has returned to full contact training and will be available for the Roosters’ season opener against the Sea Eagles on March 13.

The Roosters have however been talking to their own Crichton with the club set to offer backrower Angus a new deal.

Off-contract at the end of the year, Roosters coach Trent Robinson told Crichton he is part of the club’s future plan when the pair caught up to talk about a new deal.

The Roosters will have to fend off interest from the St George Illawarra with Dragons set to make a play.
I suppose it will depend on 3 things how Chooks and Drags are going and money - Is Schubert still employed by the club as a salary cap consultant?- haven't heard anything since he had his accident and possibility of having to have his foot amputated.

Another Latrell? Hard to see given Trell's exceptional talent but management certainly sees something in him. I keep thinking of Dewsbury Sam's "Little girl" tag. Anyway, we'll see soon enough.

Smith the myth. Latrell talk is laughable.

This remark was by the writer not The Roosters.

I mean, he's a talented 21yr old kid who has suffered two ACL injuries. But in his limited opportunities he looked very good.

Exactly how that backstory qualifies for myth status I'm not sure.

Fark, who needs Souffs supporters to bag the Roosters when our own fans are doing it so well this off season.

Yes Shoey is still involved with club as a consultant.
Crichton was told he wouldn't be re-signed months ago. Came out and made all the right noises about loving the club.
Just about begged to stay and was more than happy to take a substantial pay cut.

Since then we had the Cordner situation with Boyd now not available for a very very very long time.
All of a sudden look at me St. George want me.
Seriously Crichton do you love the club or do you love yourself ?

Teddy and Kez signed and we never heard anything about offers from another club.
Do the right thing Crichton and make it a short term contract because we know you go on holidays for the first couple of years.

This thread is going South real quick - can’t believe some want to bag Smith - a young kid with talent who hasn’t had the opportunity to show it because of two acls - how devastating those injuries one after the other would have been for that kid- still he is back in training amd hopefully gets to show his skills this year. If not then so be it - it’s not him running around saying “I’m awesome”. Then bag Angus - for what St George having interest - Gus was close to our best last year and yeah it took a year for him to complete gel into the side but **** the kid puts in big time these days / why the hate?

Totally agree with you here. Billy Smith will hopefully have a good start to the season and build some confidence. I watched him play a few times for the Bears and the kid has talent. More in the mold of Joey than Latrell. Give him a chance. Angus has never said a word about not wanting to stay with us. On the contrary he has had nothing but good to say about our club. He loves the club and he will be resigned soon. The club won’t let him go. Especially now with Boyd being in doubt for whoever knows how long.

Love Boydy....he has given his all for our great club, but seriously (given that he literally leads with his head), every hit up he’s a big chance of going off HIA again. The club should do the right thing by Boyd and medically retire him (set him up for life in an off field job with the club)...thereby freeing up the $$$ to sign Gus.
They’d be crazy to let Gus go....particularly with Boyd being such a risk for extended periods on the sideline.

JWH had interest from Penrith before he re-signed.
Manu had interest from the Warriors before he re-signed.
Toups had interest from the Dogs before he re-signed.
I wouldn't be surprised if Crichton had interest from 6 other clubs when we told him he wouldn't be re-signed. We tell the guy we don't want him and now we want him only because of Cordner's injury but he needs to take a pay cut and it's his fault that other teams are showing interest.

...oh, and on Billy Smith. I’d rather have him at the club any day of the week over fatrell.
Loyalty to/and passion for our famous jersey is 100% more appealing than the bad attitude and selfishness fatrell displayed in his inglorious exit to the vermin.
Personally I’d like to see Sualli ripping it up at left centre and burning soufs when we play them next....but Billy deserves his chance.

I don’t recall ever hearing anything official that Angus wasn’t going to be resigned. It was someone in the press, probably Weidler who suggested that we wouldn’t offer him an extension. Unfortunately then the rest of the press gallery ran with the story which had no foundation. Don’t believe 90percent of what you read in the SMH or the Telegraph. They are trying to sell papers and make up stories on unfounded rumours.

In being able to negotiate with other cubs he is well within his rights to field and consider offers from any other clubs - Drags/Dogs/Tigers in the Mix and some others i would say.

Morris twins finish up in 2021 and Friendly has the ongoing option of considering 1 year offers so additional money maybe available to match or be close enough to the other clubs offers to re-sign him.

I think Friendly may have a goal of 300 games and breaking the record of most games- currently on 263 games - Maubs current record holder with 310 games- Friendly is 31 this year.
