True but it's a longish bow Salvo. Did he not host one of the first sit downs with Giltinan at his Paddo residence? The name resonates with me because Trumper Park was the Paddo Colts training "facility" back in the day (and also hosted the Sydney Aussie Rules grand final). Lit up on a Thursday night, the oval would echo with profanities like "Gimme the f.....n ball! What've I got, the Jack?". Later, in the change room, the A Grade would speak of wives in the most intimate and degrading ways - was a bit of a shock to a D grade virgin. All gentrified now - the law would be called and the Club shamed in the Wentworth Courier - and Victor Trumper long forgotten.

There is a reason he has a stand named after him at the SCG - Victor Trumper Stand

The Sydney Cricket Ground Trust has announced the new stand at the SCG will be called the Victor Trumper stand.

Trumper played 48 Tests for Australia, scoring eight centuries on his way to 3,163 runs. (1899 to 1912)

The Trust said it was particularly appropriate to name the stand after Trumper considering his role in the foundation of rugby league in Australia, serving as the first treasurer of the New South Wales Rugby League.

          His repute, association with Giltinan and friendship with 'Dally Messenger were important in the foundation of Rugby League in 1908;

A pay cut is reasonable and inevitable. Not at all surprised.
            MRR or Rabid

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

              its not enough
the real market is not big enough to sustain this level of salary expense
Foxtel originally had no ads and was a lot cheaper. Its costs have been artificially inflated to pay for TV rights that are not priced based on the market
we are ready seeing junior stuff being cut due to "costs"

                Townsville February 12
                The proposed fight card

The event - which will be staged a week before the NRL All Stars match in Townsville - is being put on by Huni's promoter Dean Lonergan, with an official announcement due later this week.

The proposed main event will see Radiers prop Papalii fight Melbourne Storm big man Asofa-Solomona, although the bout hasn't been officially finalised yet.

Lucky Uncle Nick has his golf days with the boys to top us their pockets so it won't effect our players.

But seriously players wages have got out of hand, a good percentage of players have zero idea of the real world of mortgages and bills. If it wasn't for footy a lot would be in an average job earning $60,000pa with a few maybe on $150,000pa.

Poor form knocking ~$600k a season outta each club's cap IMO. For context the NRL's still gonna get roughly a billion from Fox/Nine/Kayo...etc. IMO head office saving $9.5 million a year by cutting the top players' salaries apart won't really make a tangible difference to the NRL's bottom line as it's a saving of less than 0.5% (an amount I'm 100% sure clubs could foot outta pocket if required).

It was raised earlier in 2020... where's all the $$$ going? Surely there's bigger pots of money they can start taking from if they REALLY need to make savings.

ISM the problem is the NRL has totally stuffed up their financial model.
They wasted so much money at the top end and neglected the game. They have basically not funded the game at junior club level for years.
Most junior leagues are reducing in numbers with the rooster one of the few doing OK, but then the Roosters are the only NRL club that funds its junior league

They unfortunately based all their decisions on rugby league starting and stopping at the NRL.
That with the billion dollars is not indicative of the real market for RL, I have doubts that it will continue/

I really don't mind sports stars earning huge dollars if the market can support it. but RL is a small market
