And I have to confess to liking the KIng's cricket digressions, though often a little shorthand, I learn more from them than from Maxwell's sum ups on the ABC. Loathe the game myself after a kid at school, with his own bat, was in for 3 consecutive weeks while we tore around hatless in the field at Queen's Park. Anyway, a little more analysis would be good King. Like to hear your extended thoughts on the quality of the Indians V Oz.

I mentioned to the vermin supporters on league unlimited that they have won only 1 comp and been in 1 GF since colour tv was introduced (1975 i recall)- B&W one's don't count- Chooks have been in 10 for 5 wins- they the verms are in our shadow
were they popular?

For many of the Australian players their main red ball cricket they play is in tests. They rarely play sheffield shield or even grade cricket for that matter whereas the Indian players must play their 5 day domestic cricket comp if not on International duties or injured and cannot play any other T-20 comp other than the IPL. Some of their test players don't play IPL at all.
With the importance of this series it would have been apt to ask players to reconsider playing in the IPL and get some red ball cricket in via the shield- Not sure why they had they had a ODI/T-20 series before the tests when these are usually played after the test matches as this form of cricket is not an adequate preparation for Test cricket.
India are benefiting from the influx of International coaches and players for their academies and IPL teams and the money being invested not only in their men's and women teams but in their development programs led b y former players. Indian Players are receiving top notch training and are able to as they say also pick the brains of these international coaches and players to further develop their skills.
Australia needs to look at their programs and also strike a balance of players playing adequate numbers of red ball and white ball cricket matches including not allowing players to play in T-20 comps prior to important upcoming Test series- not that all series aren't important but this one certainly was as this years one will be vs England- ICC T-20 world cup year as well
Although Australia won the first test after bowling India out for 36 the batting was seemingly the weak link unless Smith /Labuschagne and Warner when he returned were going to contribute heavily to the Australian score - Burns should not have been selected as he was out of form nor Wade open - Wade had several starts but was out to the same poor shot 3 or 4 times at crucial times and was not able to temper his aggression when a constrained batting approach was required.
The Batting improved in Sydney and Brisbane with the Bowling became the weak link- Cummins was the pick of the bowlers and Hazelwood second.
Lyon tried hard but was unable to replicate his 21 wickets in the 2018/19 series with his 9 wickets this series @ 55.11/
Stark was very disappointing after Adelaide and has seemingly lost the ability to swing the ball and even bowl yorkers and often wasted the new ball spraying it wide.
I can still remember the Barmy Army song from the 2011/12 Ashes series in Australia- He bowls to the left -He bowls to the right , That Mitchell Johnson. His Bowling is shite - mmm if Starks plays in the upcoming Ashes series Nov 21-Jan 22 and bowls the same it will be Mitchell Stark instead.
Out of 10
Burns - 1 - should never have been selected nor should be again
Pucovski - 5- fair start to career but his technique will be tested- can't shuffle across your stumps- the old you miss the bowler hits- out LBW
Harris -2 - been there before and not again one feels
Warner -2- played injured - not sure how long he can keep playing though - Be having nightmares about Broad in the upcoming Ashes series (Nov 21 to Jan 22)- if he plays
Wade - 2 - poor shot selection after getting several starts - be under pressure to keep his spot
Labuschagne - 7 - came good in last two tests - only Aus batter to average over 50
Smith - 6- ditto above -averaged over 44- below his best
Head -2- ditto Wade - dropped after 2nd test - be hard to see him back in the test team
Green - 4 - fair with the bat in averaging 33 but needs to be taking wickets if he is to play as an allrouder
Paine - 5 - Batted well in averaging 40 but dropped catches were costly especially in Sydney and showed lack of a plan B/C/D when things weren't working-Sydney and Brisbane day 5 - under pressure to retain captaincy by the sounds of it
Cummins - 9 - gave it all in bowling - needs to work on his hatting though
Hazelwood- 8- ditto above - really needs to work on his batting
Stark - 3- needs to see the maestro DK Lillee - ditto above with batting
Lyon -2 - poor series - negative field placings didn't help - not sure what the plans were to get the batsmen out in Sydney and Brisbane -day 5Last edited by King Salvo; 01-22-2021, 12:53 AM.

[QUOTE=King Salvo;
A case of the Indian players being better prepared than the Australian players one has to say for test cricket etc....etc.
Well done King. You should blog or submit your pieces to the Guardian. I'm pretty sure that the few malcontents here are far outnumbered by the quiet Australians who like me loathe watching the sport but are interested in post game analysis. They are, after all, amazingly talented athletes.
In my uneducated opinion Paine lacks leadership qualities - that whinging and the prophetic "wait till we get yez at the "Gabba". Smith seems far more suited to the job but crucified by the media.

Can we keep the non-Roosters related posts out of the Roosters section by any chance?
I think the jersey is okay - as long as it has the traditional V or horizontal stripes, and retains the right colours and shades, I am happy.
In terms of colours, Penrith and Hawthorn have terrible colours, as did the Warriors when they had those awful black and grey jerseys. Ours are the best by a country mile.MRR or Rabid
Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.
[QUOTE=Thirteen; I think The King and Paddo should get a room.
Nostagia 13. You'll be here one day God willing (been watching Fauda on Netflix. Interesting. The politics and intrigues over there are somethin' else. But I digress...). The boys these days don't know what they're missing - shorts, heavy enough for a start with hip pads to add to the weight of the heavy cotton jerseys complete with long sleeves, collars and buttons. Boots, leather and universally black covered the ankles (you could almost go fly fishin' in 'em) but the new aluminium studs replacing the older leather ones took off a few ounces (sorry, grams). Woollen socks completed the ensemble so on a wet track you had the job ahead. Couldn't ever have been a 10m with that load on. And then the war came - WW1.
But toil on we did with the thought of handing glimpses of guys sloggin' up and down a wet Waverley oval in suits of cotton armour and other "had to be there" moments on to you ungrateful bastards.
The King and I ( remember Alfie Langer's Roy and HG name? One of the funniest things ever was Alfie, after being presented with an Origin MOM, sent a cheerio to " Me bruvver and all the boys at Boggo Road"- ah....Rugby League). But I digress.....The KIng and I are the living record, sort of like Platypuse. The King's knowledge is encyclopaedic, I'd forgotten that 70-7 rout, they've certainly come a long way but they beat Easts on their first ever first division game at the Sports Ground in the late 60s. They had a few Easts good 'uns - Bobby Landers was one. Again, too, 62 - 8 ain't far off.
Or Sam Backo when being interviewed after a game that he was MOTM in on the ABC - After receiving one F bomb the reporter enquired about Sam’s new business venture - a bottle shop. Sam suggested people come to his bottle shop and ‘buy all our piss off him.’
