I imagine he will give it one more attempt - unless doctors orders otherwise. But one more head knock in 21 after that would be it I guess. I think if he got through the back end of the year with no concussions then maybe he will keep at it until he gets a couple more in the one season after that.
The 12 weeks could be precautionary as a result of not only the concussions but the heavy playing workload over the past few years and a family matters . I do expect him back after 12 weeks off -the question is what will the Chooks do in replacing him - external signing or internal promotion - must be a second rower.
Big loss for our team boydo will be immensely missed but until he can hopefully make his return we will need Keary / Teddy to turn up leadership as well as JWH.

I think he'll be back. IMO he's simply had to shoulder a lot over the past couple of years (leadership duties at all levels, a close death in the family and injuries on top of this).
IMO Robbo's had to be like 'mate we all know you can play on but you NEED some time off to look after yourself buddy!!!'
Sorry but there is no way its like we know you can play but we are sitting you out for the first 12 weeks and then asking for cap concession . He is either fit to play or hes not. If we needs another 12 weeks off then I'm afraid as much as we all love Cords then its time to retire for his own good . The only good part of this is if we get salary cap concession which could be a big if , is we can resign Gus if we wants to stay
I think regardless of if he makes a full recovery or not, there will be a huge trial by media as soon as he has any contact to his head when returning - which is enviable as this is footy, he is a forward and he gives it all when he plays (otherwise he is no good to us anyway if he plays half-hearted).
The calls for his forced retirement by the Roosters, Robbo, NRL etc will be the loudest ever, even at the smallest of head knocks - doesn't matter what the doctor will say. Sounds like a big time bomb of a distraction heading our way mid-late season.
It will be a damn shame if Boyd's career is cut short by this injury, but plenty of other champions have faced the same thing. His future is the only real consideration here. If playing again will be a higher than normal risk to his future welfare then he should take the medical advice whatever it is. In saying this, every player who steps onto the field is risking a permanent injury to some degree. but if that risk increases to a point where it exceeds reasonable safety concerns then it needs to be acted upon, to protect the player, and the game.
With Boyd missing for 12 weeks at least. Gus will step into his spot. I personally think Gus is better on the left side than the right. Maybe that’s due to playing outside of Luke. Anyway, our problem this year if we don’t get cap relief will be our depth. In recent years it’s been our strength. Losing Boyd, Aubo, Poassa and SBW even though he only played a few games, leaves us very short. Hopefully we get the cap relief and can buy another backrower.
When you need an entire offseason and half a season to recover from a head knock (assuming that is what it is) I think bigger questions need to be asked.. if it’s that bad you are just putting too much risk of permanent injury... I think it’s time to retire. He has achieved everything and has nothing more to prove.

Assuming Rads & Verrills are available, I couldn't find a spot for Butcher in the 17. If Cords is out for an extended period, I would assume that Butch comes onto the bench, with Gus & Tupouniua starting. Unless maybe Fletcher Baker is ready for a debut. Fletch has had a long time to recover from his injury, had a full NRL pre-season, and is a big, mobile unit. He might be a dark horse for a spot.
