If he came clean and admitted he's not an Easts supporter that would help. The deception is a bit weak and unnecessary. Supporters of other clubs are welcome on footy sites as long as they don't fake it and troll. Even Easts and Souths. It just treats us regulars with contempt.

Secondly no more long repetitive boring screeds...just one or two lines of wit and banter will do and is much more readable and entertaining.

    That's all thats needed.

We had another beer and then moved on to the next pub and who do we see sitting at the bar sprouting the same words and offering to buy some other guys a beer? Again, he drank a beer and moved off. Hmm, strange that?
I recounted the story to a mate who worked in a city pub and he knew the story too. From what we could work out is was a guerrilla marketing ploy by the beer company to get people to try the beer, a bit like the Pepsi challenge. Over the next few months we charted the progression of sales and overall popularity of the rival beer and we concluded the method worked.

Sometimes people need to try different methods to get people to change.
yep, paddo would be more convincing if he gave people free beers.

since it's been asked i for one am curious about what sort of a roosters fan he sees himself as.
how does he deal with supporting a team financed by the big end of town? what does he think of nick politis? is he conflicted about the club's working class past v the team's recent present? did he become less enthusiastic about the team when 'city ford' went onto the jerseys?
maybe he's got a soft spot for souths as well but life's complex and easts juniors are part of the heritage - he's one of the victor radleys of the 'pen.
maybe he's a league fan who doesn't live and die by whether easts win or lose.

          • When a Federal Court in the mid 90s agreed with Murdoch's legal team that Rugby League was not in any way cultural and not part of the social fabric but was merely entertainment I recalibrated. The rich had arrived and the days of local true believers, virtual guardians of our tribal inheritance who served on committees and pretty much ran the sport were over. Like it or not League is in the process of evolving now and the future will be like that of American sports - private ownership and commercialisation. That's the way of our Neo-con world and it's unlikely to change any time soon,
With a foot in both eras but faced with the corporate reality I now go with the flow. Not keen on the League's (Easts') bond with gambling nor on teams being advertising billboards but that's the way things are.
Not at all anti Capitalist but we had a country in the past where Unions were a force and despite decades of Tory dominance the Union movement acted as a counter weight and there was much, much more equity and fairness than there is now.
If the game is merely entertainment (which it is according to Murdoch) there seems to be little point on getting too emotional about it. I'm a lifetime (or near enough) Roosters supporter. I love to follow the side's fortunes, am exhilarated when it wins but a loss does not affect the week to come and, apart from Cronulla, I bear no animus to rival clubs. Not a blood brother, probably more like your normal supporter.

            • Why Cronulla? Seems an odd choice when you have Souths, the Merge and Manly.

100%. The fake supporter thing is borne of just about any post where he talks about Easts containing either a thinly veiled criticism of us, or a little Souths praise. Never ever an unconditional rap or feelgood post on the club. And the Bargearse lurve? Surely you arent that dumb.

One thing I give you (think it was you) who issued him a challenge of canning the neo Marxist rants for a week and to just discuss football. Think he went close.

clearly he talks politics too much.

tbh i don't believe you when you say that you wouldn't be so suspicious if you and he agreed politically. when it comes to footy smarts you're one of the best on the site but when it comes to judging other posters on their political colours you're one of the worst. sorry - that's my honest opinion.

if he's a fake supporter he knows a lot of the intricacies of the history of the club ...

That was me Jack and I laid down the challenge on a Saturday and I think he lasted until Tuesday.

                            • PC is an older vintage Eastern Suburbs Roosters supporter 100%.
He doesnt dislike Souths like myself & he has some different views but he's a Roosters man. He has actually seen alot more of the clubs games than alot on here plus he has a good memory of games back in the 60's maybe 50's & the way things were back then. I dont know him but I believe he was brought up in an era when Paddington wasn't posh & the Eastern Suburbs Roosters weren't a glamour club they were a team of players from working class tough backgrounds very similar to Souths, Newtown, Wests & Norths Sydney teams.

PC is the polar opposite to Bondi Boy. Both talk a tad too much politics - generally from the opposite side of the fence - but are Roosters fans nonetheless.
