  • The Mole's NRL season preview: Why the signs are worrying for the Sydney Roosters

Is the era of Roosters' dominance over now that their premiership run has ended? The signs are worrying.

RECRUITMENT: The game's big spenders have been noticeably quiet over the summer, losing a heap of experience and not signing a single top-liner. Do have some good kids coming through though.

STRENGTHS: The strike power of James Tedesco, Luke Keary, the Morris boys and Joey Manu out wide. Awesome if given time and space to move.

WEAKNESSES: Need to clean up their act with referees - conceded more offside penalties than any team in the game last year and were often punished for this. Also won just three of their 10 games against teams in the top six in 2020. Trent Robinson will want to see a big improvement here.

MAN UNDER PRESSURE: Jake Friend - been a great player for the club for many years but has two great young guys in Victor Radley and Sam Verills breathing down his neck for the key hooking role.

ONE TO WATCH: The wonderkid Joseph Suaalii - is he up to the hype? We will find out in August when he turns 18 and gets to play against grown men.

WHAT THE BOOKIES SAY: To win comp $6, to make finals $1.12 (via Sportsbet).

WHAT MOLEY SAYS: I have real doubts about the Roosters - largely because three of their main men - Boyd Cordner, Friend and Keary - all had repeated concussion problems last year. All three will be closely monitored every time they play.WHAT MOLEY SAYS: I have real doubts about the Roosters - largely because three of their main men - Boyd Cordner, Friend and Keary - all had repeated concussion problems last year. That'll do me... Moley needs to stick to rumours and gossip.

having guys with a history of concussion isn't ideal but every team can be derailed by injuries. we're looking alright

The poor guy. He makes his living around NRL but he thinks Victor Radley is a dummy half. It might be time for this clown to find a new career.

Moley sees offside penalties as a weakness, rather than a tactical ploy that won us B2B. I agree with sentiments above. Stick to rumours.

We'll see how things pan out.
"Also won just three of their 10 games against teams in the top six in 2020" & thats a fact.
Hookers not the problem but the halves & goal kicking to a lesser degree are.

Most of them write what they want to happen. Still scared of us.

Yep... after winning Origin for QLD he's under pressure from our #13 and a bench utility. Totally under the pump.

Pretty poor stat of only 30% wins against the top 6

I can’t help but feel like we missed Cronk’s calmness in those bigger games. With him steering the ship I backed the team to get it done ten out of ten times and without him not so much. Injuries and fatigue didn’t help of course.

This is why I dont think the Chooks can win another comp until they buy the best halfback in the game. The Roosters just need the top notch colonial to win them the comp. DCE, Reynolds.

Yet despite what this clown says, the bookies have us as second favourites at 6.00.

Would you put your house on the Chooks at $6 to win the comp this year?
Thats probably around a $9 million dollar windfall on the current Sydney home price medium.

I don’t think we need to buy anyone. And I also don’t think the two you suggested would help us win a comp this year.
                            ..it’ll be interesting to see

Moley is full of shit as always.

Yes we have a couple of weaknesses, but I challenge anyone to name a better starting 17.

The Storm have lost Smith and their best forward in Tino. The Panthers lost their two most experienced props.

I think we can make serious ground on both. Otherwise I think only the Souffs filth are on our level.
