  • The worst Sydney Roosters lineup from the past 20 years

We've been blessed with a lot of good times over the past two decades.

However in amongst that there have been pitiful lows. For a period between the Fittler era and the Robinson Era for example there were major bouts of depressing football (only the brief bright spot with Carney in 2010 was to be had).

Those were dark times my friends. Let's revisit them.

    1. Jordan Tansey – the slowest, most ineffective fullback to have ever played in the NRL. Last 7 games (somehow) then got the boot.

    2. Sonny Tuigamala – who knows why he was in the team. Mates with Sisa perhaps? Born to play Reserves.
    3. Dale Copely – Slow as a feather through mustard, and perpetually injuring himself.
    4. Todd Byrne – for getting run down (as a 1st grade winger) by an aging fat tired second rower in the Roosters the 2003 GF.
    5. Tau Tau Moga – “The next Israel Folau”…apparently……
    6. Josh Lewis – Another ‘Next Big Thing’ the Chook Pen blew up about
    7. Jackson Hastings – Too many rusted on Chook supporters jizzed over him as a prospect due to his last name. Relied on glory plays that usually didn’t come off. Slow. Egotistical. A below average half (at most)
    8. Chris Beattie – Looked like he was 50 years old. Possibly was.
    9. Nick Kouparitsis – No explanation required as to why this bloke is in the team. Probably in the squad because he was Uncle Nick’s long lost cousin.
    10. Danny Nutley – A literal nugget (was he over 5ft tall or not?) Good for two hit ups – the rest was shite.
    11. Willie Mataka – First Grade Career: played 2 games with us, 0 games with the Eels and 0 games with St George over 4 years. I wonder why?
    12. Remi Casty – Oof
    13. Tom Symonds – He was never that good fellas. Look at it objectively.

    14. Mark Edmonson – Pom. Only played 2 games. Ineffective and injury prone.
    15. Ray Moujalli – Played 1 game in 2009. We were short that week and needed someone…anyone.
    16. Mark Kherirallah – Played one game. The only thing of interest about him was that he was 50% Aboriginal 50% Egyptian.
    17. Anthony Watts – a stain on humanity.

    Coach: Chris Anderson

I remember Iwi Hauraki being terrible on the wing in 2009, I'd give him the spot over Moga - that 2009 was special. In fact just thinking about some of the guys we had running around in that 2005-2009 era is giving me the heebie jeebies

PSA don't look up these past squads or risk PSTD - I just did and they are scary, some of these fringe players that played one or two games. You start with a few regulars that were good, then some that were 'ok' but then you get to the Willie Browns and say 'who was that again' to remember disappointment after disappointment. Thank God for the Robbo era

I never get the fascination with worst teams, worst players ever etc.

2016: Hastings, Nikorima, Copley. WTF was Robbo thinking?

Todd Byrne was a decent player. Moga was a potential star just unlucky with injury.

Willie Mason deserves a spot for 2009.

I’d probably have to give Finchy the halfback spot. Pound for pound stunk it up for a lot longer than Hastings. Possibly a coaching issue and not really his fault but still.

Chris Anderson head coach with Freddy as assistant.

Both Hastings and Copley aren’t too bad, Hastings won the Man of Steel award (Dally M equivalent) over in England and when he’s not in the treatment room, Copley was a decent player for the Titans.

Nutley played 24 of the 25 games though in his one and only season in 2007 - I think Mark Edmondson was better at Tennis - last Australian to win the Aus Open - male or female - which will still be the case as Barty's party is over- fell apart in the second and third set after being in control of the match after winning the first set comfortably -went down 6-1 / 3-6 / 2-6.

Barty hopefully wont end up like Stosur with way too much pressure on her shoulders to win the home slam and be unable to cope.

Don't laugh as the Chooks did sign a semi professional tennis player in Rob McClusky - Chooks player # 840 - Games 1 (1988) off the bench - Round 12 vs Balmain in 12-22 loss

Ryan hall probably still couldn’t score a try in that team.
