  • Freddy Lussick - New Contract till the end of season 2022.

Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson now has another hooking option for round one after rising rake Freddy Lussick was elevated into the club’s top 30 roster.

Lussick was promoted from a development contract into the top squad after an impressive showing for the North Sydney Bears, the Roosters’ feeder side, which included a try assist against Canberra in a trial last weekend.

The Roosters have also extended Lussick’s time at Bondi until the end of season 2022.

Both of Robinson’s back-up hookers in Sam Verrills and Victory Radley are on the comeback trail from serious injuries and yet to be officially cleared to return, meaning Lussick will be available for selection as soon as round one.

The duo suffered season-ending ACL injuries in round seven last year against St George Illawarra.

Roosters skipper Jake Friend is off contract at the end season 2021, and if the veteran hooker decided not to play on his departure would open the door for Sam Verrills and Lussick to form a new hooking combination.

good news. fair enough it's just for the one extra year - if jake plays on for another few years, only fair that freddy takes a chance at another club. things might be clearer at the end of the year. he looked good on the weekend

With Jake a bit prone to injury and head knocks these days and Sammy V coming off an ACL, Freddy is a vital member of our squad.

I really hope Jake hangs up the boots after this season. We can't afford to lose these young guys. Send Jake out with one more premiership

Today the Roosters' FB page suggested that Keighran is 'locking down' the utility role.

It's tough having all this talent in the mix. My guess is that:
            - While Verrills recovers, Keighran will do a good job and also win himself some time as a starting half (during injuries...etc). The way I see it he's here to develop under Cronk/Keary's guidance (who wouldn't wanna!) and will eventually bag a ~$300-500k offer from another club based on development + our good reputation.
            - Lussick's the specialist hooker outta what we've got and would be looking to take over once Jake's gone.
            - Verrills had some really hard luck with that injury!!! I hope he gets back to his 2020 form and has a future within our systems.

I don't see why we would keep both Lussick and Verrills, They are both good, but I think Verrills is a future STAR. Makes me worry that he might be looking elsewhere.

So do I, but if he's feeling healthy enough he will likely want to play on.

Probably a sign that Friend will retire and need the back ups? Who knows.

Great to see and he really deserves that place in the top squad. Congrats Freddy.

We have excellent depth in the hooking role with Friend, Verrills, Freddy and Keighran. I saw a mention in the media today that still referenced Radley as a backup hooker lol. I don't think we will see him back in that role without a mountain of injuries.

Saw an article last year about Friend and his plumbing business. He hinted then that 2021 would likely be his last.
Glad he earnt his Origin jersey and series win too. Would make it much easier to finish up.
                          ..it’ll be interesting to see

I thought he owned a cafe in Randwick. Sounds like he is set for life after footy.
