however when I read and I hate doing it - yes I’m a lazy reader -in lots of things either of them have written it is obvious to me that they are both very intelligent and often enough would make me see some of their side of the argument as at least fair - to the point it makes me surprised in myself. So well done to them for that.
they both go about it in a way unfortunately that is incredibly condescending to everyone else who would not share their own persuasion or agenda political or otherwise..
They both will take any subject - any subject at all - like the last nights lotto draw for hypothetical example to somehow turn into a story or segue to sprout their politics and turn the original subject into simply a soapbox.
I think they might be one and the same person - I agree. Well read, check, well written, check, intelligent, check, condescending check, trolls, check, unable to see the other side, check, tedious check - oh so fkn tedious- I am so tired of reading political and even social arguments form both these guys but at least PFS has his platform to do so and readers can choose to be subjected to it. Paddo give us no choice - if we want to talk footy and our team it seems now we have to accept that every second thread will turn into a political left v right black v white us v them type thing. Oh it started interesting enough at first but now it’s an obsession from him that makes me want to smash the shit out of my phone every time I jump on this site.
Give us a break from you agendas Paddo please - most of us come here for 1/ Roosters 2/ Footy discussions stop turning the site into your political and social agenda platform. It is oh so fkn tedious. Oh so fkn tedious!Last edited by The Lip; 03-06-2021, 08:07 AM.

Agree with a lot of that Lip, with maybe an exception on the intellect side.
"The faculty of reasoning and understanding objectively" was the first definition that arose.....hmmm.
Where such high level contempt and consistent historical bias exists against parts of society, it becomes obsession and suffocates the intellect. In my humblest of opinions.#We Stand with ourJewish community#

Bandana man had this to say today. I think he clarified himself appropriately. Whilst I'd love to see the kid play, if we are short, I can wait till August, as I think the bigger picture is a bit bigger than football.
"The rule was brought in because the NRL realised it had a duty of care not to throw 17-year-olds into the toughest footballing cauldron on earth before they were ready, when data demonstrated the terrible damage it could do. It was a blanket rule, to make it the same for all clubs, on a level playing field. And it matters not a jot if Suaalii actually is ready, physically, emotionally and mentally to take his place on the field. For any move to waive the rule for him, inevitably weakens the rule for all, as other clubs will inevitably seek their own waivers in years to come, pointing to the Suaalii precedent. The fact that Suaalii also appears to be a remarkably level-headed young man, with a fine family around him and great support, has nothing to do with it. For ultimately the issue is not about him, it is about players of his whole age-group being protected.
It is a nonsense to change it, a dangerous nonsense at that. In the words of the very wise Roosters fullback, James Tedesco: “Let him be 17 and let him enjoy his youth”.
Is that really so much to ask, when the consequences of getting it wrong for him and other young men are so potentially devastating?

I wonder if, had rugby secured Joe’s signature and he went on to play at the Olympic Games, if Fitz would’ve praised him?
He could argue that it isn’t professional sport but I would argue that it is more stressful considering the frequency of the games is only every four years...it’ll be interesting to see

if he only wrote about footy i don't think paddo would bother posting which is a pity cos he has a lot of knowledge about the roosters. he had one post about how you couldn't buy a roosters jersey in the old days and anyone who's interested in the history of the club would have enjoyed it

In a lot of cultures there are initiation rites for young men. Many of these rites involve pain. Lots of it. These young men, keen to test themselves, readily sign up for it. They welcome the pain. Welcome the challenge. They want to know if they are ready to be men. It's good for them.
Sadly, in our culture, there are no such initiation rites. So our young men invent ways of testing themselves. They drive their cars dangerously. They skylark from balconies and clifftops. They overindulge in drugs and alcohol. They want to test themselves. They want to know if they can take it. If they are men.
So when a young bloke wants to play football at the highest level, he wants to test himself. It's a sport. He won't get killed.
Mollycoddling our youth doesn't work. They will find ways of testing themselves.
Football is one of the safer ways.
Let him play.

Mentally it shouldn't be a problem. He seems mature and grounded for his age, plus we have a brilliant support system.
We aren't requiring him to fight the Taliban or fly a warplane with a Messerschmit up his clacker.
Its just whether physically his body is ready. Thats my only issue.#We Stand with ourJewish community#

[QUOTE=dice;n866022] It is a hint of the authoritarian rule we can all expect if the Greens ever won government.
See? There's the rub. The Right Wing nutters (it's a label guys not unlike "lefty" and has the same connotations) hate debate and that's the bottom of their bellyaching. This is not a footy thread despite the title. It's an opportunity to slag off at a progressive columnist based on little else than the influence of News Ltd which misses no opportunity to pillory the left and that level of group think permeates the whole shitty organisation. Many on here, long since impervious to counter argument, have been drawn into that web - reactionary, anti science, anti intellectual anti environment and simply Right Wing (remember the Nazi "burning of the books? Whadya think that was about?). The appeal of News to our Brownshirts is that a lot of "blokes", not unlike themselves in their minds, slag off in language that they understand - someone mentioned Paul Kent's antipathy to the Bandana - how surprising) But others have not yet joined in that group think- yet.
Whenever a thread is used to promote any aspect of a RW agenda I (and others here thankfully) will seek to counter it, as much as anything else for the benefit of the young and impressionable who, in the absence of argument might accept the News line as truth. True, this is a footy forum but it is also a community and,as such, hopefully open to tangential debate.
News flash to the conga line - don't read it, skip over it. Nobody's got a gun to your head. The truth is that you don't want others to read it - the epitome of Cancel.
