i think he is best suited to a d mortimer role circa 2013. i said that last week , nothing has really changed my mind.

he seems to defend well and has a reasonable kick on him. quick pass today was nice. prob somethung to work with, but don't seem a starting 5/8 th .

    • Compare our left and right side attacks. Right side is killing it.... left yet to kick in to gear. However when youbare winning games you can afford to be patient

      • Lam is playing the role Robbo wants him to play - Keary has a roving role playing left or right side as he see's fit - Not sure the Statler and Waldorf mob actually watch the game except to nitpick on players they have a less than flattering view of.

oh so you obviously know exactly what robbo thinks / wants ? right

is robbo totally happy with lams performance ? really , not sure why walker appears edging towards his debut sooner rather then later ? wonder who he will replace ? keary ? hahaha

just because others have a point of view that differs to yours does not make you right.

quote all your statler and waldorf you want , lam as 5/8 th is not a long term affair , and no he will not be moving to hb.

          • I'm a bit confused by the criticism of Lam at the moment. Keary and Tedesco are the two focal points of our attack, and it is designed in a way that they both play what they see and pop up on both sides of the field. So far, albeit against poor opposition, it's safe to say the strategy is working! We have put up 40 points in consecutive weeks.

Based on this new attacking structure, all that is required from Lam is to make his tackles, occasionally kick, make the right pass when it comes his way, and run when the opportunity presents itself. Looking deeper at these requirements from the last two games:
            • He hasn't appeared to be a defensive liability so far, although I haven't seen his defensive efficiency stats.
            • He looks to have a strong kicking game: can kick long, high and has shown touches of elite short kickicking.
            • He showed very classy touch with the short tip on that led to Morris' first try.
            • We would like to see more from his running game, hopefully that develops as the game slows down for him.
This is all from someone still finding his feet in a new starting role, with what looks like limited touches (at least to my eye), as per our new gameplan. You can't have too many chefs.. There's only one ball!

Next week will be Lam's first real test, and in the following 3 games he will play the warriors, sharks and storm. After round 6 we will have a better sample size and indication of how he is really going.

If he keeps playing the way he did today he won’t be in the no.6 much longer, he will be at 14..

              Robbo will sort it out..

Why can’t we be looking at Lam as an attacking option too? He’s not there just to fill the jumper. He is there to create opportunities. I’m sure he will.

I agree, I'm sure it will open up soon. So far he has been auxiliary, but has not let us down. He will be needed to show his worth against tougher opposition that locks down Keary and Tedesco. Everything looked fine with Flanagan until teams worked out how to shut us done and expose his lack of impact... Hopefully the same doesn't happen with Lam, or at least we don't wait long enough until there's no second chances!

                    Brilliant post.

A few of us are really cheering Lam on for a few reasons and its kind of so far, so good. Without standing out at all.

I will trust Robbo. We are fortunate to have some nice depth of talent to work with.

i guess that is the question mark here, yes, lam has moments of brilliance, nice touches . agreed.

problem is the 60 mins between those touches, he does not seem to be a constant threat, or even in attendance. his game today was solid.

everyone sees the game through diff eyes , i just dont see a starting nrl 5/8th , i see a jake clifford. good for now. waiting for the next cab, he is ok , thats it.

Show me a premiership contending team with a 5/8 who’s job is to add nothing in attack....?

See here is my issue with what you say , I actually agree that Lam is no where near the best half in the comp but he is one of the most inexperienced. It would be seemingly impossible task for a young bloke with 14 odd games in the top grade to take control of the team when you have blokes as good as Luke , Teddy and co demanding the ball or naturally running the show .I agree Walker may well be the future for the Roosters but to many young halves with massive potential have fallen at the last hurdle because big pressure .My belief is that Lam should continue to be Luke's half partner with Walker given limited games to bring him on slowly .League is a confidence game and if Walker is get smashed and run over , which he will it may well do him more harm then good .Were going well and Robbo seems to believe we can win with Lam there but no doubt unless his game is to improve in the next month or so then that may change .

                              • I dont know if Lam will be the long term 5/8 or not but whilst the Roosters are putting 40 points on the opposition & conceding not many plus leading the comp he will be the 5/8.
