  • Pillboy's top 8 - we are not premiership contenders

    Andrew Johns' top eight:

    1. Storm

    2. Rabbitohs

    3. Eels

    4. Panthers

    5. Roosters

    6. Raiders

    7. Knights

    8. Warriors

"I've got four teams who I think will fight it out - Storm, Souths, Parramatta and Penrith. I only see one team out of them who can win the competition and I think that's the Raiders," he told Wide World of Sports' Freddy & The Eighth.

"I worry about Boyd Cordner being out for most of the year.

        Not regarded as premiership contenders?
        Good.
We'll just hang back in the field and get them on the turn and in the straight.

5th is in the semis and a contender...of sorts.

Johns anti rooster bias clouds all his judgement. Never to be taken seriously. He sounds like a fool year after year. Freddie had to remind him of our succession plans in place after he trumpeted goulds dads army crap and that we only have 3 or 4 players the wrong side of 30.

There are 6 teams pretty much already in the 8 & there are 4 teams who can make the 7th & 8th spot & there are 4 teams who are making up the numbers.

The 7th & 8th will be the interesting bit. I said before the comp started that I think the Warriors are the darkhorse for the 8, I didnt pick them in the 8 but I think Brownie & his other assistants plus Gus will get them in the 8. Newcastle, Cronulla, Manly, Titans & the Tigers will fight it out for the other spot.

I think the Raiders are our biggest competition. Good blend of experience and youth.
                ..it’ll be interesting to see

Penrith scare me much more than the Raiders do.

every team's success depends on injuries but even if boyd and jake don't make it back we'll be competitive. too soon to write both of those guys off and if they're back firing come semis then watch out

My dark horse side for this year is the Knights.
They might not win the premiership, but I think they will dent a few more fancied sides this year.
A team with Klemmer, Saifiti, Frizell, Barnett and Fitzgibbon has to be respected & they have a couple of handy backline players.
Not looking forward to the Roosters shaping up against them - it will be tough.
Watching Saifiti this year , the only way to stop him is with an elephant gun.

I mean on Saifiti it's been one game and they were playing the dogs which have one of the worst packs in the comp lets be real. However I do agree with you, the Knights might surprise a few this year, Brailey is a good little hooker, plus they've got good depth especially when Green returns. Not to mention Ponga can light it up aswell especially on the back of their forward pack.
