  • Do we need a rivalry with Souffs?

Just read some article that says phone chucker's publishing some stupid 'book of feuds' and is trying to get everybody to understand this stupid 'rivalry'.

If I'm honest, I grew up between The Gong, Paddo, Darlo and Surry 'ills. I had the choice of the Steelers (was a fan until they merged), Easts and Souffs.

While I know they stole our juniors territory (making it seriously weird when they heckle us about little kiddie's footy - who gives a toss what U13 club somebody played for?) and there's been some poaching, so what?

Souffs are trying to sell this story that Jai Arrow and Benji Marshall will have to learn about some 'deep' rivalry. As far as I'm concerned, there's no rivalry in Whakatani and I have better things to worry about than Souffs.

A bit like Origin... I'm sure there's some mad rivalry but as far as I'm concerned, it's been a bit like NZ and Aus in the yawnion. One team wins every year and it's nice when we have a bit of luck, but nobody takes it personally?

Aside from one phoney premiership and a single cricket score result against us by Souffs since 2002, it's largely been one-way traffic with this 'rivalry'. Souffs are just another team (like Manly and the Tigpies... TBH I grew up hating the Bullthugs more than anybody, not Souffs! But now they're too pathetic for me to bother with).

I'm guessing we buy into the 'rivalry' to sell more tickets, but do we HAVE to care? To me it's pretty tiring every time this comes up. TBH I'm pretty indifferent to them. During my lifetime they've just been this random, largely shyte club (but for a single, gifted premiership) that doesn't even have a clear geographic boundary (St George and Cronulla have already got South Sydney covered... we're got the East, which includes inner-suburbs like Paddo and stuff... so they're a made up 'area'). Souffs are like what? Maroubra (East when selling a house), Randwick (East when selling a house), Redfern (okay 1 suburb that's technically in the east) and Botany (could be St George TBH).

The NRL mighta given them our nappy-wearing juniors but TBH they don't really fill a gap. Thus, it's difficult to 'hate' their part of Sydney... as it doesn't even exist. Except for Redfern. However, that's just full of rich, north shore kiddies anyway (who should get behind the Bears rather than Souffs).

Yeah.. I've often wondered this... I am as red white and blue as the rest of you, been following since 1974 GF.
"HATE" is such a strong term, bandied around like a badge of honour. Sure, have a healthy rivalry but "HATE" is not the term that should be used, especially in something as menial (yes menial in the broader scheme of life) as sport...

Being a Queenslander, I hate the Broncos but now that they are a shit team, I don't hate them so much.
There's a reason why the young and idealistic become the old and cynical.
          It's called experience.

It's all for show mainly the non playing people carry on with this rivalry - players just train and play- they would prepare in a similar way no matter who they were playing one would say - all this they hate each other is a bit daft - you don't want to go down the pathway of what English Football/Soccer used to be with rivalries which turned into extreme violence between rival fans inside and outside the football grounds.

I hate all teams when they play us, however I cheer for whoever is playing against souffs. Does that mean I “ hate” them? I don’t know, but what I do know is that I derive greater pleasure from seeing them lose than I derive out of an orgasm.

I only hate one thing in my whole life and that is the Vermin.

As for removing this “rivalry”, the solution is simple - throw them out of the comp for good this time!!

And thats the point. Curious poser.

Its a good thing. Passion is important.

yeah, passion's good and a healthy rivalry adds to a game. the players don't get into it so much but nothing wrong with fans having tribal loyalties.
maybe it's just me but when you see crowe and his book of feuds you do think the whole thing can be a bit childish.

Jealousy mate that’s all it is he tries to sell this rich vs poor which doesn’t exist anymore and it doesn’t take much to motivate a mob of obnoxious, obstinate, narrow minded Centrelink doll bludging leeches. Previously I was a Correctional Officer for 10 years and I learnt a lot of this one old school tough as nails officer he used to call the lowest of the low Societies finest. I’d say about 1 in 3 were Souffs supporters most of them on the methadone program too, which for those who don’t know is red in colour and they all wore Gaol greens so naturally for me it proved one thing, that’s what makes up a significant portion of their fans.

How many times did he talk up his rivalry only for it to backfire in his face? It’s like that shit talker that loves the sound of his own voice vs the quiet achiever who just focuses on the task at hand, they’re living in the past I purely hate that club for various recent transgressions that are borderline criminal.

I hope the boys put in a effort to be proud of and choke the life out of those muppets.

                            Go EASTS!!!

It's nice to have 2 teams to support each week. Easts and whoever plays the vermin.

Bye this week for the second match.
