Do we need a rivalry with Souffs?

Of course we should hate them , almost one of the most ridiculous post ever . I truly do hate them , I wish they were never allowed back in the comp and would welcome the day they are booted out again and phone chucker sails of into oblivion

Of course we need a rivalry. Strong rivalries between teams adds to the game. Its up to the individual how much they want to get carried away with it though

What Rivalries are truly left though or are some of these manufactured or non existent anymore- the old Sydney Comp had more rivalry games each week and overall than the NRL currently does - some not existing anymore too i.e Wests vs Manly/Dragons - Norths vs Manly - Balmain vs Vermin - Newtown vs Dogs

They hate our guts - and anything that hates something I love as much as I do the roosters, I absolutely despise

I view the two like the good guys vs the bad guys - they are consistently having cheap shots at us throughout our history while we always remain professional.

They want to be known as the people’s club but they sold their soul to a rich movie start that owns them, while our club is still owned by the club and our wealthy stakeholders give to our club without need of ownership

They want to be known as pride of the league but historically they stole other areas (Roosters, Newtown), they won a premiership by turning up after an agreed mutual forfeit, they killed off other neighbours such as Glebe

They want to rub in everyone’s faces their number of premierships despite the fact they have one in the last fifty years, and many of their premiership were from different times where the best players in the competition had left for overseas tours by grand final day.

They claim they are the oldest, proudest, loudest club despite being out of the comp for 2 years, while we have been there every season since day 1.

To this day they cover up illegal activity, stand up for grubs, don’t care for player welfare (concussions etc) and play dirty when it comes to any sort of negotiation with us (eg Suaalii holding back a 17 year old they don’t want because they don’t like our club but then will make out they care about mental illness in men with Souths cares etc). - while at the same time will use any and every opportunity to bad mouth our club with close to serious deformation claims about our integrity.

If anyone feels sympathetic to Souths as a rooster, go sit with them this Friday and see how you feel after - they have obsession to hate us and they don’t play fair about it - nothing friendly about it

I've hated Souffs since the days I would go to Redfern Oval as a kid to watch Easts play them. I was terrified and I haven't forgotten it.

They generally had the wood over us back then and it wasn't until the mid 90s that we began to dominate them.

Then add Russell Crowe into the mix.

At the same time genuine rivalries in our game are essential as they bring the most attention and passion - and we don’t have enough of them.

You cannot replicate the feeling of a Souths Roosters game, just like when they had Bears Manly games or state of origin games (maybe more so in the past).

These games have something special about them in the build up - the nrl knows it and wishes they had more but no one cares about manufactured rivalries because they hate needs to build itself

These games means more viewers and attention on us - more $, more resources, more growth - the stuff someone like the Wests tigers dream of but will never happen

Just read some article that says phone chucker's publishing some stupid 'book of feuds' and is trying to get everybody to understand this stupid 'rivalry'.

If I'm honest, I grew up between The Gong, Paddo, Darlo and Surry 'ills. I had the choice of the Steelers (was a fan until they merged), Easts and Souffs.

While I know they stole our juniors territory (making it seriously weird when they heckle us about little kiddie's footy - who gives a toss what U13 club somebody played for?) and there's been some poaching, so what?

Souffs are trying to sell this story that Jai Arrow and Benji Marshall will have to learn about some 'deep' rivalry. As far as I'm concerned, there's no rivalry in Whakatani and I have better things to worry about than Souffs.

A bit like Origin... I'm sure there's some mad rivalry but as far as I'm concerned, it's been a bit like NZ and Aus in the yawnion. One team wins every year and it's nice when we have a bit of luck, but nobody takes it personally?

Aside from one phoney premiership and a single cricket score result against us by Souffs since 2002, it's largely been one-way traffic with this 'rivalry'. Souffs are just another team (like Manly and the Tigpies... TBH I grew up hating the Bullthugs more than anybody, not Souffs! But now they're too pathetic for me to bother with).

I'm guessing we buy into the 'rivalry' to sell more tickets, but do we HAVE to care? To me it's pretty tiring every time this comes up. TBH I'm pretty indifferent to them. During my lifetime they've just been this random, largely shyte club (but for a single, gifted premiership) that doesn't even have a clear geographic boundary (St George and Cronulla have already got South Sydney covered... we're got the East, which includes inner-suburbs like Paddo and stuff... so they're a made up 'area'). Souffs are like what? Maroubra (East when selling a house), Randwick (East when selling a house), Redfern (okay 1 suburb that's technically in the east) and Botany (could be St George TBH).

The NRL mighta given them our nappy-wearing juniors but TBH they don't really fill a gap. Thus, it's difficult to 'hate' their part of Sydney... as it doesn't even exist. Except for Redfern. However, that's just full of rich, north shore kiddies anyway (who should get behind the Bears rather than Souffs).

I share your sentiment Zac. I was born in Paddo and lived there for 2 years before moving to Oxford St, Woollahra. The family then moved to Chifley in 1956. I played for South Eastern Juniors as a boy. My father helped to set the club up in the late fifties. After my parents both passed away I and my brothers moved back to Bondi Junction, I was 16. I played for Paddo - Woollahra. I followed Souths as a child but after moving and playing in the Easts juniors I supported Easts. I have been a supporter of Easts for over 55 years. I now have mixed feelings about Souths, After That idiot commissioned the Book of feuds & I'm aware of the steeling of Easts territory. I now have a dislike for Crowe. A lot of guys who played in the Paddo - Woollahra team were from the other side of Anza Pde. We shared a bit of banter about the teams but never hated them. I feel it is a bit of media beat-up that has happened over the years. But there is no question of my love for Easts, it goes back a long way.

My hate of Souffs is perpetually constant. While my dislike of other teams comes and goes depending on how they're travelling, my hate of Souffs is constant and hope they get smashed even if they are running last !
Even when I tip them in tipping comps I hope they get beat ! ............... Fatso Crowe just intensifies the hate !

I grew up absolutely loathing St.George and the Bulldogs.

Did not give a fig about Souths.

But do not like losing to them now.

Rivalries come and go. I could care less about the Dragon and the Dogs these days.
