Last year I analyzed the number of players across the league injured when Rads and Verrells did their ACL’S . At that time there were about 100 injured players across the league compared to around 70 in the previous year at the same round. There were also more players out with ACL’S than the previous year across the league. This year seems to be shaping up worse. I suspect the greater continuity in the game, giving players less down time/rest during a game is leading to muscle fatigue. Muscle fatigue leads to instability in joints. Part of the recovery process after an ACL injury is to build up muscle strength around the knee. Its noticeable , albeit anecdotal , that Rads, Sam, Luke, and Lam all sustained their injuries running forward. If you have been defending a lot after repeated sets of 6, a lot of running backwards into position to defend, different muscles have been used, fatigued and instability of joint maybe more likely. Also a players workload in a game will play a part as well as a particular players physiology. We , the roosters maybe just unlucky, but there are always reasons for the cause of events.

Also the shorter off-season. Players usually get 6 weeks of doing nothing so their bodies can completely heal from known and unknown injuries. I made a prediction that the State of Origin players in particular will be found out. One down.
V'landys and Abdo will be happily bean-counting and whispering sweet nothing to the media about player welfare. I bet they are quietly celebrating the increased chances of a different premiership winner... $$$
