I think he literally just had bad luck... Hall was a pretty good player IMO (e.g. he made ~200m in a few games, which is worth as much as a try).

He just wasn't our best winger, so had limited opportunities to score. Whereas in the UK he's their goto man and it's all like 'GIVE IT TO HALL DAWGZ!!!' whenever there's a big monent.

I rate Joe Burgess worse, at least Hall made solid meters and looked like he wanted to be there.

As discussed elsewhere, I put him in the same boat as Craig Garvey, Remy Casty and other 'randoms we singed to temporarily pad our books'.

Could be wrong but Robbo now seems more conservative about who he signs. Like if you have $350k in the bank, you don't NEED to spend it. Being a little bit under the cap is better than having some smart@rse whinging about how he's never picked (as if they're automatically better than all our reserves) or a Chris Smith / Anthony Watts / Jayden Nikorima farking around, giving the club a bad reputation without playing any footy.

Either way, those ~$350k and lower players who 'come with greater potential/reputations than their price would suggest' quite often turn out to be lemons. Guessing that's why Robbo's been like 'fark it... let's just back our reserves instead of using the $350k from Boyd's salary that we were given an exemption for'. Who knows... it might help is to keep somebody like Baker instead of being p!ssed away on some other club's unwanted nuisance. More often than not, unwanted nuisances seem to have links with drugs/crime that the cops haven't uncovered yet buuut... everybody in the sheds/footy circles knows about.
