Boom 18-year-old half Sam Walker is set to begin talks around a long-term extension with the club in coming weeks.

The Roosters are determined to hang onto the playmaker they see leading them for the next decade, but both Walker and his father – former NRL half Ben – indicated their preference for him to get some game time under his belt this season before sorting out his future.

Apparently the extension for Gus is only for one year at the moment due to uncertainty about the new salary cap limit and whether or not Cordner will play on beyond 2021 or retire etc. Sam will extend for at least 3-4 years.

I think money. Depending on Cordner he may be able to make more. Thats my guess.

Gus speaking on 2GB this afternoon didn’t get too much into the details but it does seem to be a salary cap reason for the 1 year extension. Mentioned that there is a lot of juggling that occurs to keep such a talent squad and that he definitely wants to stay a rooster so the one year deal was best for both parties for now.

Gus also mentioned to Freddy (who is a host of this show on 2GB) that he saw Freddy’s young bloke at the Scots footy camp (wasn’t aware that he attended there) and that he was looking bigger then Freddy these days (jokingly but must be a solid kid). Says Freddy jnr is currently 14 - looking forward to see him play in the future.

Also mentioned the fun fact that Suaalii was in year 7 when Billy Smith was in year 12. Talk about feeling old!

My main takeaway from your post Northy is ...how good is it to have guys like Billy and Suailii coming through to replace guys like the Moz?
