It is good news about Angus and hopefully a positive development with Toups. Angus loves the Roosters, so I doubt there was ever a realistic, alternative option for him anyway. Let's hope we can get on to a good, longer term upgrade in the not too distant future. At least the short extension will keep him hungry and on his toes performance wise. That is never a bad thing.
    MRR or Rabid

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

      ~$500k a year minimum I'd reckon.

What a ridiculous signing by the Cowboys! Do they not watch the games???? Townsend is a plodder at best, he got schooled by an 18yo 2 weeks ago and is not worth that type of money

not sure they gave a lot of thought to that signing. it's like they've gone back to the pre graham murray days

What are their options? Not many. The’ve thrown millions plus a kitchen sink, a nice shinny one, to Reynolds but that’s not enough for him cause he’s a city guy and can see a better outcome for him and his family. Even though they are chasing Dearden, they still want experience along with him. They could have gone for Shaun Johnson but maybe they did and wasn’t interested or Johnson is seen as temperamental. Chad Townsend had the experience and seems settled plus kicks. He’ll be fine for them.

he's won a comp and shouldn't be underestimated but 700k a season? who else was offering townshend that?

Yeah it was good to hear Hooper sound forthright about what S Walker feels about Trent and the club. I mean who wouldn’t want to play for the club they loved as a child?

Which makes me wonder, why did Sam Walker become a Roosters fan instead of the teams his father played for Broncos, Manly or South’s. Or even his other uncle Shane who also played for south’s or saints. Yet he followed the team his uncle Chris played for, Easts! I remember how people used call him a turnstile in defence, but great speed. Good to see that Chris left us in good terms to hopefully influence his nephew to follow and play for us.

No one in Sydney, but that’s what happens when you don’t have the clout of a strong successful club like ours. Like Hopper said last night when talking about Sam Walker, ‘the Roosters don’t pay silly money which is why they are so successful.’

Agree , Townsend's form has slipped over the last couple of years. The cowboys recruitment is a mess , they have Taumololo on a long contract that has the makings of a Buddy Franklin type ending. They paid huge money for an NFL wannabe who looks like a shell of the player since his return and just retired their playmaker who was on huge coin through injury.
Some of the people who do the buying of players at clubs seem to go on past reputations and not what they are currently producing.

think he spoke about it in an article few weeks ago. his whole family support the broncos and he liked being a contrarian so picked the roosters and stuck with them ever since.

it was something along those lines anyway

I remember reading something similar... While his dad was playing for lol souffs, to annoy his dad, he began cheering for his dad's most hated enemy Easts. Since then he's been a rooster fan .

Yeah a Tele article titled 'Why Sam Walker chose Roosters over rival clubs' (I don't have access but read the description) says:

...it was the teenager's belief that Roosters coach Trent Robinson would allow him to express his natural ability, rather than dumb it down, that resulted in his arrival at the club from the Broncos as a 16-year-old...

Guess you just get a vibe about coaches? The Broncos are pretty shyte at the moment too. Maybe he got the feeling they were pretty clueless/directionless and disagreed with some of the coaching staff who were gonna take him forward if he stayed?

Timing is everything in life - we got a bit lucky where Sam had to choose between Robbo and Seibold - and as they say the rest is history!
