I will trust in Trent and it will raise a lot of cross code interest from across the ditch.
I don't think there's a risk in paying $130k for one of yawnion's best players (All Blacks are next level) for roughly 1/2 the season. Anybody who makes that team is guaranteed to have the physical traits needed for League IMO. Maybe not the Wannabe's, but All Blacks... for sure!

    - Worst case scenario, he plays for the Bears and we offload him after the season having given him a chance.
    - Best case scenario, he's amazing and signs a 3 year deal to replace Friend after 2021..
    - Mid-ground, he's a cheap reserve who plays a few games without any major dramas (with Verrills being Friend's most obvious successor... assuming he can still play like he did in 2019).

$130k won't get us anybody from the NRL Next year we'll have Friend's salary to spend but this year we're broke. He's a bargain buy who will probably add more value than (for example) playing Manu out of position or seeking an exemption to use an SG Ball player.

That said - Verrills is back! We might get by with him, Lussick and the two guys with names I can't spell.

    • not saying the club's culture is not high but having an AB in there would definitely benefit the professionalism to the team.

      • despite losing keary and friend the club won't want to give up on this season. if the club thinks signing perenara helps us to have a shot then i'm for it

        • I heard Cronk talk a couple times about our 5/8 predicament.

On one occasion he mentioned that we have a surprise candidate. Another time he said that Suaalii wasn’t up to playing 5/8.

Could it be TJ? Or after his try assist kick on the weekend, possibly moving Tedesco to 5/8 and Suaalii to fullback?

          Or something else entirely?
          ..it’ll be interesting to see

To me TJ would provide experience to the halves in terms of elite performance management and prepping for big games.

Like Cronk and Smith... you don't need to be the most technically gifted player to perform consistently. You need to have a cool, consistent head on your shoulders. Who knows! IMO they'd be hoping that he could do this.

By having him talk to Robbo and Cronk about tactics, IMO the club could adequately assess whether he's likely to be a good fit. If he's able to convince them he knows how to make the right decisions, then he'll have the goods.

Teddy is trying to play both positions at once right now. I'm sure he'd be OK at 5/8, but I think I'd prefer he chime in from the back.

If we could get him for anything close to 130k then it’s a no brainer! Is that the price that has been suggested?

And by the way he barged Marschke out of dummer half for our only try last week, he wants to play hooker too.

Sure it will be exciting to see how he goes but not at the expense of the development of real prospects who could be here long term.

If he was going to sign I’d like to see him commit to next year too. Or would we be better of using this money towards a league player?
Because we are the glamour club and signing marque players brings with it media, publicity and $$$. Remember SBW 2020 return. They worked out in some strange way that the NRL benefited by the tune of $30M via social media etc...
Imagine NZ rugby types watching the TJ experiment wearing our colours!

If TJ goes better than expected how many cashed up struggling NRL clubs would raise their hand for his services?
Just maybe, the Roosters may find room for him > Friend $, imminent retirements, releasing players......??

                        I agree with this..

We are the Roosters, and with that comes success and continuous need for improvement and raising the bar in areas not many other Clubs would dream of following.

The TJ signing is a lot more than how much he can fit into to the team on the park, just as importantly it’s about media, dollars and exposure in the Red White and Blue!

It’s a win win for all parties involved..

That's the number being thrown around by the media. Not sure whether there's truth in it, but I doubt we have a lot of spare cash for 2021.
