I predicted this on some other earlier posts as i heard the NZ Rugby and the Hurricanes were having a word with him and in other articles he was seemingly changing his mind in reference to going back to NZ and about committing to NZ Rugby and the Hurricanes etc.

Agree with zac here. I'm used to this tactic within the world of NRL (player x is linked to Roosters purely to get his target NRL club to up the ante) but not across codes.

For $150,000? I don't agree TLR. It's too low to start a bidding war. I think he was talking himself into it wanting the challenge, especially since he was probably thinking his rugby days at the All Blacks were over, but a sizeable contract from the Hurricanes in his country plus weighing up the new game requirements for less money, it's a deal breaker. Plus the contract he was offered shows that he is still highly considered as an elite athlete and may get himself back in the AB's. Stuff him now!!!


We need to get someone of his skillset and determination whether they are from league or union. I did read that other AB players are interested in switching as well as Michael Hooper...from league there's Hodgson and B Smith but of course they come at a premium price that we may not be able to fit under that mysterious sombrero...ole!

all of a sudden he's heard of covid? for him to say that the covid situation was a determining factor doesn't really cut it, cos that was around before we started talking with him.

the interest we showed in him, even if it wasn't for a lot of money, enabled him to ask for more/longer with nz rugby.

i'm not sure he was mercenary but sounds like he never had his heart set on switching to league.
