FWIW Mortimer did play FB for Australian Schoolboys. I saw him and he wasn't bad...

Be interesting to see him in the trials... mainly because at his best he's an instinctive attacking half. This is sorta the new role of a FB in League and something we don't have in Mini.

My comments before about Mini not being "half bad" in 2010 were more about his ability to defend. In many games I felt it was his ability to diffuse a lot of decent kicks that stopped tries being scored. He didn't, however, turn these diffusions into linebreaks/attacking situations.

Guess that's what scares me about Mortimer as a FB... he doesn't defend. Not only that, IMO a good FB will defend well, make his own opportunities out of nowhere... THEN attack. I dunno of Mortimer can do this, but he's been learning from Mini so who knows?

Why play our best prop against a bunch of thug dogs...!!!!

Mortimer is FB so he can build his peripheral vision, it's not about learning to play fullback, rather having the luxury & time to read/anticipate threats & listening to Anasta calling the moves. Morts will not play 1st grade fullback but he will develop confidence from this trial as a backup to the role Mitchell has in the team.

Apart from Pearce, Anasta & Moga the rest of the backs are defintely ON TRIAL....
You can't be serious! This is definately a trail for Moga. He's never played against men before.
Also, SKD ain't going nowhere. No matter how well or how badly he goes, he'll be in the centres come round 1.

SKD, I dont question his ability or class, he's got it in spades but his groin has not been tested since the op...thats whats on trial.

Moga is a gimme for centre, Smith licks his boots clean every day & so will the media...he will be a mountain amongst men before round 2, souths are in for a shock

Also, they compare him to Izzy, NO WAY! he reminds me of the great Jonah Lomu in stature & reputation while still at school

Good side. Looking forward to it. No need to rush players in for trials if they aren't quite ready yet. Cliched, but premierships aren't won in...errrmmm... February. It's pretty close to full strength anyway, so it's a pretty good start for our first trial game.

It's not a bad Roosters side, considering it's the first trial match of the season. I wasn't expecting to see soo many big names

Morts is still on the Parra van and I thanked them for advertising the Roosters when I saw it at Rouse Hill shops.
They said we got a good in him and also that he was badly treated by the Parra club.
