Unfortunately for butch, he would struggle to make the team if we were fully fit, we shouldn’t really be comparing him to somebody who was one of the best defensively of the modern era for a long time.

But fortunately for us. I watch the game for entertainment. Butch is boring as bat shit.

Butcher isnt there to entertain you mate.

I'll wager Butcher has been given a very specific job over the past couple of years by Robbo, which is to play a conservative style. His offload hasnt gone away, he is clearly under coaches orders not to use it.

Butch is unlikely to be another Gallen, thats where i think certain Chookpenners have gone wrong. They are upset because their expectations were too high.

Butch is good enough as a 1st Grade second rower with a lot of upside. Top fella, and hope we stick with him for the right price

The take away from this is Butcher is less dissapointing than Manu because of a lower ceiling? I can handle butcher as with a fully fit 17 he may not even be in it like ikavalu. Joey gets me though, i have expected him to kick on for couple of years now but as someone said, his basics (foundation of his game) seem to be wanting.

I'm not about to move either of them on even if we didnt have injuries but if Manu dosent pick it up then next contarct talks might be interesting.

In saying that, no player could have really excelled last night with those blatant double standards being applied out there. Very proud of their resolve even if it meant a loss.

As Big Jack Gibson said " you're not there to entertain you're there to win "

If we had an agro forward in there who could make an impact in attack then maybe we would win.

I didn't realise he was a top fella. From now on I want him in the starting side and if he really is the nicest bloke in the team than maybe he should be the captain too.

I have never been one of the ones on here to compare him to Gallen. We could only wish, Gal was a dog. Butcher is more like a cat.

Personally I never got excited over Butch cause as I have stated many times, he's just too small. Easy meat.

But now I know that he's a top guy I hope he's at the club and not entertaining me for the next decade.

Pretty sure you did compare him to a grandma early on

Don’t mind Butcher, he’s one of those solid players who are useful to have in the top 30. Manu wasn’t great yesterday but then again, not many were. My issue with him is the defensive side of the game. He was a very solid defender at the back end of 2018 and has regressed now.

                        Hmmm. We must've lost then.

The reffing was ordinary. We have injuries. We were ordinary as a team.

                        Let's sack them all!

who knows if butch can play 9 but the idea doesn't seem crazy.
in sbw's come back game v canberra last year we had a bench of
                          collins
                          butch
                          sbw
                          crichton
freddy was starting 9 and aubo was out injured. there must have been a plan for a back up dh and if it wasn't flanno then it might have been butch.
regardless, it would make butch a more attractive selection every week if he could fill in there like josh maguire sometimes does. he's a good defender so he fits the bill very well on that account (better than any of our existing starting 9 options). ball in hand? not sure he can kick but he does have ball skills

Just making tackles isn't enough for first grade any more, you have to be effective in other areas....Butch isnt. In saying that, like others have mentioned, he isnt or shouldnt be in our best 17 with a healthy squad

We have seen Manu at his best and he’s exciting and a winner. If he’s not firing as good as his previous years could be that he’s not getting the service that was helping him reach his best, then perhaps it’s due to the unstable situation with our halves. When Fergo left and BMoz came in, it took a while for Joey to get accustomed to a new partner and he did but he also had Cooper on his left so that was a lot of help. Robbo has to work with Joey to get him to fire again because after all, he was voted best centre in the NRL by his peers last year.

As for Butch, well he works hard but I wish we had someone like Tino or even Luciano (Sounds like an Italian comp) in his place. He needs some mongrel in him.
