  • Our HIA Stats

I don’t know what the numbers show but our players seem to fail HIA tests more than players from other clubs. It seems that when we lose one for a test he is likely to fail the test where as opposition teams are more a fifty-fifty bet.

We seem to have a higher benchmark than other teams. That Storm game a great example.
Then we give them a few weeks off. I think Sitili is the only one in recent memory who failed an HIA and played the next week.
It will be interesting to see if Teddy plays this week considering Robbo said he was ok and Teddy said his head is fine..

the other reason might be that we only stay down if we're hit. if a player is milking a penalty he will pass his hia test

I think we might be a bit more conservative in deciding whether to send a player back on after a HIA. Because we are a high quality team, maybe we can afford that luxury, and we have certainly shown a great duty of care for our players who have been concussed.

Given what Annersley has said in a media release today, it is obvious that he has listened to what Robbo said in the presser after the Dragons game, about taking players out (Tedesco) with head high tackles.

Agreed. Better to let Tedesco rest and recover this game

It appears to me that the Roosters take into account how many past concussions the player has had & what the time line was between the current concussion & the previous concussion.
Kearys happened close together & he also had been concussed a few times like Boyd so they got a long lay off, if it’s your first ever concussion like Sitilli & you feel okay then it’s okay to play the following week.
Teddys had a few concussion so I expect the Roosters to sit him out this week.

there are many factors, one is player honesty,
One of the Roosters Drs was involved in a study of elite RL players and their honesty in terms of concussion assessments and symptoms.
Players can and do lie, worried about losing their postiion. They may even try to dumb down their baseline.
One thing I like about Robbo is he is all about integrity and it flows through to the players.

If our players are truthful they will fail more assessments.

For other clubs not caring as much as ours, I look at Souths. No club or club Dr worth 2 cents will apply for an exemption for a player to bypass the return to play protocols and let the player play within 7 days.
they did that with Reynolds, even if the player seems ok, surely its better to be safe than sorry

What was the reason Papanhausen didn't play this week. Interesting considering he appeared to be out cold on the ground...but passed the HIA.

It was due to the actual reason he was lying on the ground, he stuffed his shoulder. Will be out for a few more apparently

There are some good and valid points raised here, which I tend to agree with. We handle things properly, carefully and professionally - better than any other club. In fact, from recent commentary I have heard, we have developed a strong reputation in this area, which is admirable, and yet just another reason why I am so proud to support this club.

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.

He was knocked out from the head clash and he hurt his shoulder when he hit the ground because once your out you don't protect your fall. It was how Lindsay Collins hurt his ankle when JWH caught him with a stray elbow and knocked him. There's a human instinct to protect yourself when you fall but when your knocked out you just collapse and limbs go everywhere.

Can someone print this on put it in the player's locker room or something? I deeply believe this to be true.

IMO it will attract players too. If you know that (for example) one club has a culture of playing you with injuries and concussion scares while another one does the exact opposite then go figure. I reckon most will take their welfare + longevity over an extra $50-100k.
