When the ponies were getting flogged last year and their forwards were running sideways, Lodge took up the JWH role of hitting it up the middle and trying to belt the opposition in defence. My only question with him would be his lateral movement in defence. I could see Robbo using him in a JWH role of limited time and maximum effort.

IMO their respective clubs trying to get rid of them has more to do with the money they are on, and new coaches looking beyond 2022. We would be signing them at less than half price with no expectation of keeping them beyond 2022.

Far better to invest in and develop Baker/DSF/ Hau Tapuha than sign either Lodge and or Fifita not that the Chooks have ever considered signing either i would assume - Boozy Buzz makes up stories same as Hoola Hooper and Kent road etc - always the "I've heard" "I understand" "Unnamed source " etc - which is a dead giveaway that it's bunkum - just trying to make it into a story to sell papers and subscriptions. - same as Pengai Jnr last year

the only reason why you think fifita would be worth considering is cos of the tongan connection but watching him in the bears v newtown game he looked a spent force. lodge comes with bad references and is an unlikely fit. but the fact remains that we're short on troops and it would be handy to get a bit of cover for this year

To not sign Lodge . yes I would throw away the $350 exemption . We are going well , we have done extremely well blooding the young fellas so far much to my surprise so continue to do that . We may not win the comp but the experience to them will be invaluable

It's a like for like for Cordner so a back rower - by the looks of it Hau Tapuha was added to the NRL squad as he was a development player i understand originally to make it 29 players in the NRL squad leaving only one spot available to fill the 30 player roster.

Yes. Listening to Robbo media conference it sounds like there is little money left to be spent. There is no discussion to be had.

Also interesting that Verrills had blurry vision for 10 days and can't remember any specific incident from Anzac day clash.

They have filled 29 of the 30 squad spots in any case leaving room for 1 more signing - whether it's TJP is up in the air as some scuttlebutt about NZ rugby stepping in- so no popping the champers corks yet.

Perenara himself appears yet to decide whether he'll accept the offer but says if he re-signs with New Zealand Rugby, he'll probably never play professional league.

"No decision yet. There's a few different scenarios on the table but in all honesty, my wife and I haven't come to a decision," he told media last week.

"I would be doing the club and the boys that I work hard with an injustice by focusing on anything else besides our games coming up. I wanted to make a conscious decision to focus on the games at hand and when there's some time to put some thought into some other things, do that in due time.

"If I don't make a decision and be part of an organisation this year, I don't know if I will do it again. It will be a commitment one way or the other. Committing to New Zealand Rugby, to home and the [Wellington] Hurricanes will take league off the table for my career," Perenara said.

Chooks website lists 31 players of which 1 is a Bears Player in Jessie Marschke from the extended squad and 1 a development player in Naufahu Whyte for the 29 players in the NRL squad - they couldn't even list Benny Marschke though who is from the extended squad but playing NRL.-shambles of a site for a professional club

As per the extract from the article (See link) the up to 350k hasn't been approved though - not sure if that is the rule that you can only use it when the player comes back from injury which seems daft to me as the player is back - you need to use this money to sign a player externally or promote internally when they are out for the minimum 12 weeks.

Maybe they think clubs will milk it and the injured player makes a miraculous recover and comes back in less than 12 weeks?

If they have filled the 30 player roster whether players are playing or not they i assume wouldn't be able to go external to sign a player using this 350k as that would make it 31 players and Cords wouldn't be able to play.

Dispensation to add players to an extended squad for injuries is internal with any of those players able to play NRL not going external to sign players to replace injured players.

Co-captain Boyd Cordner also remains on track to return from his extended concussion lay-off around round 14, after the Roosters mid-season bye.

That would mean Cordner has sat out the minimum 12 games required for the Roosters' representative salary cap relief bid to be served.

The club's application for a maximum $350,000 dispensation remains yet to be approved by the NRL for that reason.
