People in the media are talking it up because they think they need to. Nobody thinks this is a good idea. Thinks of the potential knee injuries on a ground that has 8 games played on it over 3 days. We are the 5th game. If we have any serious knee and leg injuries (like we don’t have enough) we should have our lawyers ready to go after PVL and his imbeciles. Voice your views on why Magic Round is Stupidity Round.
Why does it always have to be in Brisbane? Take it around the country and share the love a bit

It's just a copy of something they do in the USA, the Qld govt and the Brisbane City Council pay the NRL big bucks to have it there. Supposed to promote tourism, business for hotels, cafes etc.

          • Well this just opened a can of Eels...I mean, where would one start?

The NRL has denied Parramatta’s request for an exemption and will not allow "dirty” Eels players to return to training until they arrive in Brisbane for the Magic Round, which is expected to just one day before their game against the Warriors.

I've been referring to them all week as Dirty Rotten Scoundrels..and not the Steven Martin/Michael Caine variety either..shame on them. No wonder they've won nothing since 1986. Jack Gibson would be turning in his grave..he never coached grubs like that. Brett Kenny, Mick Cronin, Johnny Peard and Artie never had to stoop to those tactics to win premierships..

I've never been so angry over a game I didn't actually watch..I trust the judgement of the good folk of the Chookpen.

Ok enough venting..I should take note of my avatar and look ahead to next Saturday..just ran into my neighbour and he said the more injuries piling up, the harder it makes to watch.

I am hoping they will get rid of it as some may remember leagueathon 1977 and 1978 - There was a reason why it wasn't continued - teams lost home ground advantage plus gate , food and beverages receipts

1977 played over 3 days for some reason- 2 games each day

One's I went to were as follows

                      Cronulla 37 - Newtown 10

                      Eastern Suburbs 20 - Manly 0

(beat Manly 12-0 in the second round game)

1978 played over 2 days (3 games each day) - below was on Anzac Day

                      Norths 16 - Newtown 5

                      Cronulla 35 - Penrith 9

                      Eastern Suburbs 22 - St.George 6

I remember Alan Power in 1978 - I seemed to recall he had a blood disease and almost died and didn't play first grade again after that one year in 1978 ?- a reasonable player - centre

My Bulldogs mate thinks the same about the Bulldogs.
                        I dont know.
I think the stats would show who is the most penalised and it’s certainly not all teams. I am sure we are close to the bottom of the list as far as receiving 6 agains and we’ll on top of 6 agains against us. It’s not just bias. I believe statistics if we can access them all will tell a story of us being singled out.

I remember the league-a-thon. I particularly remember the 1977 game against Manly. I listened to it on the radio with my father and it was Fulton's first game against his former club and he turned it on. I can remember him scoring a runaway try to clinch the game.
