  • Fitzgibbon’s worries

I honestly think Fitzgibbon will be in for a culture shock once he goes to the sharks. Having worked in a system that’s acknowledged as one of the best sporting organisations in Australia, then moving to the rabble that’s the sharks will make him realise he’s in for a torrid tenure there.
I foresee him returning to the Roosters within 5 years.

He’s smart. He knows he’s going into a mess.

This may sound harsh, but I don't care that Fitzy is walking into a bit of a challenge at the sharks. He wants the profile and money that comes with being a head coach and he'll get the concomitant challenges.

If you want to have a career in the food industry, you probably wouldn't start by buying a 3 Michellin star restaurant. You'd probably start by buying a Milk Bar and make burgers...or if you're really struggling, you'd get a hot dog gig outside the footy stadium. I'd say Fitzy has bought himself a hot dog biz in the hope he can upgrade it to a Milk bar in a few years.

Are there still hot dog sellers outside the SCG? I haven't bought a hot dog there since the 80's. Many a times a bit of comfort food was had after many loses around that time.

Yep. His job's to improve it...

I have no insight but TBH when I went to one of their home games (against Easts) back in 2015 I was surprised by how amateur their setup was.

They had vollies standing around with 'official' tags, telling Easts fans they couldn't sit in the seats they'd paid for (wife was ~7 months pregnant and they still made us sit in the mud). Later on one of them snuck up behind her and screamed like a maniac to scare her (laughing all the time while I was like 'get farked mate, she's pregnant + that was a massive d!ck move). Instead of saying sorry, he just yelled some racist BS about Asians (which made no sense and summarised Cronulla's culture in my eyes... farking scatterbrain bogans).

Saw their facilities. Their gym was a fukking joke... just some little shed with a few benches and weights. Looked worse than the woolloomooloo PCYC did in the 80's (with Yurong Pkwy in its prime).

Basically their only redeeming feature is that two skinny forwards (Fifita and Gal) pumped the 'roids... then the whole team followed, with Flanno at the helm. For whatever reason they were then able to blackmail ASADA into backing outta their full investigation. NRL gave them a sympathy premiership... now they are shye again and have a bunch of d!ckheads on their books.

Their hopes and dreams rested on Bronson Cherry's pumped up shoulders (and they emphatically popped right off him).

Fitzy's been promoted from 'dude who runs a few fitness and contact training drills' to head coach. I wish him all the best, but won't be surprised if he comes crawling back in a few years.

Had to look it up too.

                            > One that occurs or exists concurrently with another.

Meh, I think 'concurrently' is a far more common word. Great to know there's a pretentious alternative but my concomitant vibe is that I'll probably never use it.

Fitzy's not going to get instant success at Cronulla & I think he knows that. Who knows how it will pan out for him they have some good players so who knows.
