  • New rules crackdown starts tonight

    Summarizing Vossy's explanation on radio this morning;

    1) Direct forceful contact with head or neck = sin bin mandatory, possible send of
    2) Indirect forceful contact with head or neck (arm bounces of ball or chest then hits ball carrier in head, or ball carrier is falling a la Tedesco = sin bin mandatory
    3) Repeated 6 again infringements = sin bin to be used and no time frame ie the 6 agains don't have to in rapid succession or for the same type of offence

Thanks Robbo. Shame the rule change didn’t happen a week ago.

        This will be interesting.
3 defenders all trying to lock up the ball with 6 arms around the player in possession how isnt an arm going to come in contact with the neck or head. Is the game gonna change tonight back to tackling around the legs if not then teams will have no players left out on the field.

Love the repeated 6 again sin bin.
So not only the bias on some teams with the repeated sets but throw in a player in the bin. FFS this could get ugly for some teams.
Last week was 8-1 against us.
Cecchin would have had 2 of ours on the bin during the game and Parra would have had none of their grubs.
Would have loved to hear Robbo's presser.

if they enforce it it will be rare for a team to finish a game without having had a player binned. it will change the game but i guess concussion is an issue that threatens the game's existence.

the sin binning for repeated infringement is unnecessary. surely conceding a 6 again is enough. it's almost like they want to open up the field and have 10 playing 11.

Odds on JWH getting binned by this bullshit this weekend? Can't wait to watch us be the ones fked over after all the bs we've been put through with illegal hits in the past 3 weeks.

It feels as though they've put a clueless business consultant in charge rather than somebody who actually knows about the game of footy.

Like I get that we don't want head knocks but:
                  - 6 Agains are already a joke and they make you tired. Sending players to the bin won't magically enable people to run back quicker on their tired legs.
                  - IMO most players don't intentionally go out there to clobber people in the head. They get tired, they mis-time stuff, people duck...etc and an arm hits somebody's head in the context of a contact sport. Might sound like a paradox to them but if you call more 6-agains, give people less interchanges and start sending people off more easily then you'll see more head knocks and more serious injuries. Oh and more bloody cricket scores.
                  - Footy players aren't robots! You'll never get perfect compliance with the rules and punishing people even harder won't stop people from making honest mistakes (or refs from making 'honest mistakes' that just happen go result in one team being royally screwed by gratuitous sin-bins).

Why do they change the rules every week?
The people in charge have no clue

Neither will most of the players..they'll feign ignorance..what a round to propose new rules too..everyone at the sports carnival better all be treated the same. Can't bin JWH for something and let it go in the subsequent match the following day...yeah this is going to be really interesting...

V'landys knows no more about the game than a casual fan. Probably less. He should solely be running the business side of things - TV rights, expansion, etc. He's very good at that. Rule changes he should have no part in.
