  • Chop chop

With the Chooks playing the third game on Saturday, from what I’ve seen tonight after two games, the ground will be chopped up pretty bad.

No matter what work they put in tonight, it won’t knit and will just come loose again.
    ..it’ll be interesting to see

Nothing we can do about it now... both teams playing on it. Cmon easts!

Yep it’s going to be a complete mess by Sunday - I think magic round is a ridiculous idea myself. Why one city needs to see all eight games at home for a round is beyond me. That’s not for the fans - I don’t really know who it’s for - not the the fans - the majority of the fam base is alienated in magic round.

You are right. It only benefits Brisbane tourism.

If the NRL are insisting on a magic round concept surely playing it in a different city each year (Adelaide, Perth, Wellington etc) would be the way to go and grow the game

The last thing we need. More injuries because of a crappy turf

That's ok. Graham Annesley will just say the injuries weren't due to the poor state of the ground, and that'll be the end of it.

Spot on BBR. The usual lip service from NRL HQ on some matters, coupled with the over the top/knee jerk reaction to last week's Roosters/eels debacle that has led to this week's "crackdown."

So much common sense here. If it was *really* for the fans, then as you say, they'd move the "fan concept" around each year. Alas, it's as plain as day, money talks, BS walks when it comes to NRL.

Robbo said something about an equivalent in the EPL and that it was pretty cool having everybody at Ethiad Stadium for Man City or something. Makes it a big tourism package for the whole city and generates $$$.

Maybe it works with the round ball game and with English soccer fans (who will spend the day at the soccer getting drunk and singing 'ole ole ole' (plus other generic EPL songs) no matter who's playing? Another example of where the BA in charge of our game has had a 'blue sky idea', told the footy experts that their advice is 'not constructive' and ignored the fact that footy totally kills ovals (plus footy fans don't willingly watch other teams play and everybody's getting ACL injuries already, without having to put up with worn turf).

Totally get that it might work with English/Euro soccer fans though. For example you could go to Spain, stay in a resort for chips, drink cocktails, order luxury room service and watch 2-3 high quality games of soccer. Footy? I don't wanna go to Brisbane, it'd cost $$$ and I can't think of anything worse than watching the Drizz, Souffs and Pemriff win their respective games. I just wanna see Easts play (preferably amongst easts fans, not neutral/opposition fans singing generic soccer tunes). Also I don't wanna see any more ACL injuries pleeeeease...

Agree. If and when I do get home to Queensland, it will be to visit my family. I couldn't stand sitting in a stadium ALL DAY watching teams that make my skin crawl.

I like Magic round, the bigger crowds at a great stadium, have a lot more atmosphere than a normal game. Seems like the players enjoy it too. It gives all fans a chance to experience the big game atmosphere. Ofcourse it's a money making exercise, what isn't?? It can be moved, but currently there is no better option than Brisbane for the facilities and the crowds. The state of the ground is a concern naturally, but I don't see it as a major worry.

Both teams have to play under the same conditions.
If your worried about the surface for the Roosters game then think how the Dragons & Storm fans must feel.

I don't see this as a big issue in the scheme of things TBH.

No matter how bad Lang Park's surface gets, it will still not be as bad as Marathon Stadium or Brookvale Oval!

Some people believe supporting the Roosters
is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed
with that attitude. I can assure you it is
much, much more important than that.
