Let’s hope that in the next magic round we play as the away team. It seems to me that the broncos and panthers need to do their share of home game for this magical round.
'Magic Round' is an ad agency farce. If there are to be 16 teams, each team should play every other team twice, once at home and once away. Nothing more, nothing less. I personally believe that after this, same as it used to be, there is no need for a finals tournament. The winner is the team that was better than all other teams, in a mostly fair and even competition. I also know that this will never happen, due to the advertising dollar of the finals. Stop all of this rubbish, including 'Magic Round' and all other debatably divisible vainglorious virtue signalling rounds. Rugby league is a (mostly) harmless re-enactment of war, the forceful violence used to gain the territory of the enemy. You support the colours of your flag when you are a fan, not the issues that a think-tank has chosen for you to follow. I believe that there should be two divisions, with the top two teams in division two, come season's end, swapping divisions with the bottom two of division 1.

Anyway, we won, and this always makes me incredibly happy. Go Easts!

Well that’s a lot to take from what you’ve said BUT I will agree on 2 things:

      1. That every team should play each other twice however as it’s been explained by those directly in the game that that would mean extending these regular season to close to 30 rounds so probably starting in February and then having the GF in November and then a short pre season... That would be asking too much from the players. Don’t shoot the messenger cause I’m just telling you what they’ve said.

      2. Yes happy we got away from that game especially with some of those bunker idiots decision going against us! And no injuries that I can think of except probably one suspension.

Remove the finals. That's 30 games in total, which is less then the current competition, plus the finals. Fifty percent of the teams, half of the competition, they enter the elite master competition of the finals. It is scary that most fans have accepted this as normal and fair. They had the system correct in the beginning. I'm on the fence with the new policing. I agree with what Trent said in his press conference, but I also want to see players gloriously displaying their strength, in force and in skill. We have the potential to evolve into the super team at the right time of the season. No injuries, lol, I am so bloody happy about that.

        • A win is a win , but I don't think there is enough hard, straight running in our side to worry the best sides in the competition.
We did it on 2 occasions against the cows , and scored tries - First the Angus try and then the one that JMoz busted the tackle and gave Toups the saloon passage to the tryline.
IMO opposition teams have worked Angus out as they know he is our best running forward, and target him in defence..
Losing Lindsay hasn't helped our cause with making tackle busts.
Having Cords back might alleviate the situation, but who know what will happen since he has been out of the game so long.
Its a real problem because when we are up against the better sides, we go sideways in attack, throw panic passes, and the errors and dropsies become commonplace.

            • It was a danger game and we won by 14 points. Should have been more but for our goalkicking.

If we can beat the Broncos and Canberra we'll be in a good position going into the bye all things considered.

              • it was good to get the win. cowboys played well after we were down to 12. sitili played really well but that tackle was totally avoidable and cost us, not to mention we didn't defend well for the 10.

teddy motm but a lot of good performers.

magic round confirmed as a starter for next year and why not - it's good for them to play in front of a full house. our 2 magic round games have been home games so we're due for an away game but we've won both so far and maybe there are good financial reasons for us to have another home game next year

Still not a fan but seeing players signing boots for kids...etc was great. Walker's an Easts fan from Brisbane so I guess one thing it does is push our brand in Brisbane.

FWIW I was a Steelers fan (but not really a footy fan - they were just my local team as a little kid from Austinmer). I then moved to Paddo and went to a Sharks v Easts game where we were behind by ~20 and came back to win (forget the exact year). Was instantly sold on Easts + League from there as it was a great game. People pick teams for odd reasons. Having more Brisbane Roosters wouldn't be bad...

                  • There are alot of people that don't support it, mainly the fact its in QLD.
If you are going to have it put it in the country (NSW or QLD) across 3 towns (that are close )
thats where the money is needed not some shithole like Brisbane

No country town has the facilities, or the ability to house the crowds generated, 3 towns CLOSE..... good luck with that LOL, it needs to be in ONE venue, the rights to hold it are SOLD, it is aimed at creating a carnival atmosphere, big crowds. It works, and it is here to stay.

                      • The commentators describing the win as ugly can't have seen our tries - beautifully executed. Cows were very lucky we got a man sin-binned as I don't think they would've been in the game without it. Our defence couldn't handle it though, so kudos to them for taking advantage. Sitili's high tackle very stupid and one of the few deserved sin-bins. Thanks for ruining magic round refs and V'landys.

Unless you want people travelling with swags and caravans, I don’t see which country towns could accommodate it, let alone facilitate it, credit to the ground staff too, the surface has held up well so far.

                          • I haven't previously been a fan of the Magic Round concept, but have to give credit to how it appears to have operated this weekend.

Must be a huge logistical exercise and seems to be well run, and even the ground has held up ok.

Always like an 'event' that properly showcases something, could easily be held in Sydney too though. Would love it held in the country but the infrastructure might be a bridge too far.

Be good to hear about the experiences of our attendees this weekend.

Why is Brisbane a ****hole? It's clean, easy to get around, has great galleries, live music, fancy hotels that were never there when I was growing up like the Ovolo, great restaurants with lots of fresh food, shopping and sport, close to the mountains, beaches and country towns with great pubs like the one I grew up in (the town not the pub, although there was one right next door to us ). The people are friendly and not stressed out and grumpy like down here in Sydney.

The dinosaurs who have lived all their lives in Sydney and always had the luxury of at least 4 games there every weekend are squeeling..... don't worry about it. Some of the stuff written on here this weekend bemoaning the crackdown on head high tackles is ridiculous as well. Oh well, the original dinosaurs are extinct now, because they failed to adapt to changes, and these relics will go the same way soon enough. Suncorp is the best Rugby League arena in Australia, Brisbane is a great city with plenty of amenities, and Magic Round is a huge success.
