  • Best pub walking distance to SCG

Opinion? Not after anything fancy, just catching up with a mate

Closest is The Olympic but it's a bit of a dive and a poor selection on tap.

Fox Studios has Bevarian Bier cafe with a great selection of German beers on tap. The Munich lager is a beauty as is there light and dark weiss beers. About 7 minutes walk to the ground from here.

If you like your beers and would like something different to the usual commercial shit that most pubs serve, then you could try Tap House which is about a 15 minute walk to the ground.

Or my personal favourite is Bitter Phew on Oxford Street near Taylor Square. Always a different selection of excellent craft beers. Will take about 20 minutes to walk to the ground from here.

When you get to the ground if you want more beer, head to the bar underneath the O'Reilly stand. They have a selection of about six 4 Pines beers on tap there. Not my favourite but a lot better than the rubbish they serve at all other bars around the ground.

    Enjoy your day.

Great run down Thirteen - never been to the Bitter Phew - never even knew it existed till just now - I will have to check it out - maybe even today!

Whats the Captain Cook like - I heard they did a bit of a Reno and new owners - is it still a dive?

Nice day today - the Fox and Lion in fox studios is a good close option as well - it’s got plenty of out door tables - few brews outdoors watching the beautiful people go by.

I purposefully didn’t mention this shit hole.

Bitter Phew is up some stairs not on street level. If you didn’t know it was there you wouldn’t know it was there. I highly recommend it.

The Fox and Lion has been closed for a very long while, it turned into P J Galleghers and that has been closed for ages.

Yeah sorry I never got used to that name change - didn’t realise it was still closed - I thought it closed during the Covid lock down - didn’t realise it never reopened.

Does anyone know what the Tap House is like on the corner of South Dowling and Flinders ? Mainly curious just for the roof top bar.

Sorry just noticed Thirteen mentioned it.

Yes its been closed since covid and is showing no signs of opening anytime soon, as you say it was a good place to sit and watch people go by. The burger place across the pathway from it also closed down, another eatery took it over for a short period but it also closed, both venues look sad being closed now.

Cricketers Arm on Fitzroy St is a quirky small pub which can be fun, sometimes call in to meet friends after a Roosters or Swans game, looks a bit divey inside but i like it.

I’m going to Easts leagues for a feed and some beers before kickoff. They have a free bus running between the club and the ground. That’s another option.

                          It’s a family site!

If anyone needs guidance on the brothels surrounding the stadium speak to Mickie.

I like the Cricketers Arms and regularly get cocktails/food at Dead Ringer with my wife after games.

Personally prefer walking towards Surry Hills/Central rather than Redfern.

Paddo probably has some nice ones too. A little fancy for me these days though

Agreed. We have a little terrace on Hurchinson st so it's perfect. Decent pub food upstairs too.

One day when the kids have grown up I'll invite Nick, Robbo, Hammo, Drew, Wayne L and all our mates from the 'Pen and we can have a massive after party (preferably after putting a cricket score on Souffs).

That's the last place I had beers, beers and more beers. That was 2006 after Mum died and I went to Ricky Stuart's last game as coach with a Dragons friend at the SCG. Mickey's at Paddo has closed down now too (a diner, not a pub, but still an Oxford St institution until last year)
