The reason I started this thread is not to claim that Hutchison is an NRL quality half at all, but as far as input in the game to assist an inexperienced Walker, he worked pretty hard in defence but also in attack and managed to score a couple. In contrast Lam doesn't run much as the NRL stats go, doesn't score, and all creativity is left with Walker. Apart from his catch & pass (on both sides-I have to state that because you never know) and bombs, he doesn't do enough. He can put one of those floating bombs every 10, the rest are what Pearce was putting up just giving the ball back, and all of his try assists are just catch & pass...It's not like he went around 2, or 3 or 4 players and a flick pass here and there...It's just a pass he gets from his inside and just passes it along, like a piece of conduit, and that's his assist. C'mon Man!

An orthopaedic surgeon who treats knee injuries was on radio after Kearys knee injury and he claimed that when the body is overworked the muscles that are there to protect our body tend to fail due to the stress put on them and when it's a muscle around the knee, they can leave the knee exposed to an ACL injury. The work that Luke was having to do because he was practically alone, much like Walker is at this moment, and with the rule changes, may have led to his ACL.

Walker is busted and still keeps going meanwhile Lam is just waiting for a pass to come to him. He is being outshone by someone 5 years his junior with half as number of appearances than him. Lam has 16 NRL appearances (Not 8) over 2.5 years over a punk with 8 appearances in his first who's outscoring him in every facet of the game.

Lam needs to stand up and assume a level of seniority in the squad and start demanding the ball otherwise why the hell do we have Keighran there on the bench, who is also a 5/8 and he supposedly is a good kicker? There was all of this talk when Lam was given the role of 5/8, which is true, that Rads, Sitili and maybe Butcher were all teammates with Lam in the juniors for many years and they were tight...ok let's see some combos there. Show me some of those combos Penrith are dishing out?

Unfortunately we are not blessed with a player of Keary level of experience at this moment and knowing full well that he isn't part of this season, I asked, when is Hutch back?

I am not disagreeing with you regarding your comments, I have been saying for a while now Lam is not a First grade 5/8th and I would much rather Hutch in that position..

He didn’t impress me at all when partnering up with Keary earlier in the season and he didn’t impress me the other night..
I initially thought he and Walker maybe able to form a good pairing but maybe I was wrong..

In regards to your original question, hopefully Hutch is back soon!

I have said all along that we can't win the premiership with either Lam or Hutch at 5/8 and have been roasted for it. They aren't NRL level 5/8s and to be fair 5/8 is probably not their best positions. But as many players say they will play wherever the coach needs them to play and do the best to their ability.
If I had to choose out of both I think Hutch has complimented Walker better but Lam has only had two games back. One was pretty good and last week was pretty poor but in a poor effort by the whole team so it's tough to judge him on that game.
Unfortunately that yawnion pr!ck played us to get more money or I think he would have been an exciting prospect at 5/8.
Keighran is unknown but could be worth a crack. I'd like to see how he goes at interchange lock until Rads gets back just to give us that attacking option that Rads provides. I thought he defended well. Played for 26 minutes. Made 19 tackles for zero misses and 20 passes.
I really can't see any other options for 5/8 unless we use Manu and bring in Suaalii at centre. But he doesn't have the kicking game of Hutch or Lam.

No offense to anyone but we won't be winning a premiership with Ben Marsche at dummy half either. Full credit to Ben for his efforts but Jake Friend he is not. Keighran has not shown a lot yet imo.

The thing I like that Hutch has over Lam is being a bigger body, this is needed more on the edge against the larger forward packs - Panthers, Storm, Raiders

He also has a superior kicking game imo.

Lam provides more speed & spark on backline set plays however

So why isn't he taking off Keary like along the left and setting up more scoring opportunities, OR score a try? His running stats should be more than 28m per game if he has that speed.
