  • Coaches getting fined

Trent had a suspended $10,000 fine.
Pretty sure Ricky has copt one.
Looks like Des might cop one after his press conference.

Does the NRL really think the coaches are in the wrong and the refs are perfect, they way the games are being refereed this season is a joke, every weekend its a lottery and the players aren't deciding the game
Trent is right, they are incompetent. I hope they sort it out before the finals, not that I see us making the grand final but I would hate for the ref to cost us a premiership.

Trent didn't call the referees incompetent. Important his views don't get misrepresented in this thread, he described the handing on one incident as incompetent.

I think Des is in a lot of trouble for his comments today, I also think he missed the mark on a lot of his comments. Manly were very lucky not to have a player sin binned in the opening half of the game. If you're going to go at the referees you need to be ready to speak on all facts not just the ones that suit your story.

It’s probably worse, he implied the whole game including the match officials were incompetent.

good on him though, changed the game forever.

Did you see the Titans halfback get sin binned?
It should have been a penalty to the Titans for a deliberate forward pass.

What's the difference. "They were only incompetent once, not lots of times. I want to make that clear."

Having a moment of incompetence and being incompetent are two very different things.

I really enjoyed how Dessy was being coy and how he ended the conference. It was hilarious.

Semantic nonsense. If someone tells a lie, they're a liar. Do something incompetent, you can be described as incompetent.

no. trent trod the fine line between telling the truth and not bringing the game into disrepute (with a skill that went beyond what the nrl was capable of picking up). coaches are allowed to criticise individual decisions but they can't bring the character or overall competence of officials into question. trent did the first and didn't do the second.

How didn’t he bring the overall competence into question? He made them all look like a pack of amateurs. And so he should have, good on him.

“that incident was unacceptable from the bunker and from the referees.”

“They looked at it 10 times and they couldn’t find anything, and then they have all of half-time and then we run out onto the field and they say it’s on report now.“

“That’s incompetent to not see that, a guy goes to hospital and then 20 minutes later you put him on report, it’s ridiculous.”

it's not in robbo's bones to bring the whole administration's competence into question. he's a team player. robbo didn't talk about the overall competence - he criticised one particular incident as he is entitled to do

It seems how coaches can comment on the game is all about semantics. If criticism is not delivered subtly the NRL can't cope.

It’s not semantics, it’s common sense. One can have a moment of incompetence without being incompetent at their job. It’s called making a mistake, Sam Walker made multiple incompetent attempts at tackling TPJ. Is he now incompetent in your eyes because “Do something incompetent, you can be described as incompetent.”?

It’s not as black and white as you want it to be.

Robbo was spot on - the officiating was incompetent, and the NRL showed they agreed with him by standing the official down. Just can't use that word though, like bias.
If he'd said something like "the worst decision I've ever seen" or "How could they get it so wrong?" there'd be no fine.

"On this occasion, by failing to act when the Parramatta player's flying knee put the Rooster player in hospital, the referees failed to fully demonstrate the competence which we all know they have in abundance and which we greatly admire and respect."

                              That should be OK.
