Well at least Robbo knows next time a ref screws us over all he needs to say is the opposition was "ably assisted" in winning the game. This must be a loophole for a way of calling a referee a cheat & avoiding a 10k fine. Not only that but the NRL will act on your "ably assisted" comment and drop the referee in question!!

Is that what happened? Are you serious that Des didn't get fined for saying the team he lost to were "ably assisted" by the ref?

At least he was saying the ref was good at something. Trent was nasty because he said they were incompetent.

100%....& Ben Cummins got the axe.

Maybe Robbo should have mentioned all the fark ups that occurred in the Parrra game & then in the end say " but the referees/bunker is better than that"....that will negate all the negatives!

They’ve at least managed to be consistent in being inconsistent
            ..it’ll be interesting to see

I can barely believe the NRL's stupidity. I have heard many coaches whinge about refs in pressers, but I think this is the first time one has said directly that the ref ably assisted his opposition. Pretty synonymous with saying he deliberately cheated to help Knights and it cost him the game. And NRL says "No problem with any of that".

              WTF????

Colour me confused on that one as well. I'll now have to subject myself to Hasler's press conference.

Wait, is this serious? Surely that's a joke. When I heard Des's presser I was absolutely certain he'd be getting fined.
As a user already commented; he essentially said, or at least implied, that they deliberately manipulated the game. I thought he was going to be in serious hot water.
                  Wow.

Yeah I didn't watch it (don't really care about his team or what he has to say). However, surely somebody at NRL realises that:
                    - Des has said 'the refs helped the opposition'. That is... an NRL ref has intentionally helped a team to secure 2 competition points. If that's what he said, he's alleging there's corruption going on.
                    - Robbo said '[the handling of an isolated incident for which an official was sacked] was incompetent...'

To me there's a pretty big difference between saying that an individual fiddled with the game and saying that the collective group of officials were incompetent in their handling of an isolated matter.

IMO Robbo was all class because he didn't call them shyte officials or even go as far as to suggest that their mishandling of a player welfare situation impacted the result of the game. Whereas Des has been a daaawg and questioned the whole integrity of the game... asserting that refs intentionally 'help' teams to win games. Des' comments have broader implications about the integrity of the game and they apply to an individual (which IMO isn't cool). Robbo just criticised the handling of a situation from a player welfare perspective (in general... didn't point fingers, just suggested there were more competent ways of handling the situation). Big gap. Our mate the gambling/horse racing expert should know about that.

                      he never said that.

Dude, as a lawyer, isn’t the devil in the detail? Des said they were “ably assisted” did he mean by the wind in the first half, or how poorly manly played, or the bounce of the ball, or the crowd. There are many things that could have assisted the knights, Des didn’t directly say what it was.

I think I know what he meant, and many others think they know what he meant.

It was obvious what he meant.

Thought you were a one-eyes Easts fan, bruh. Whatcha doing watching some past it Manly coach rambling about the footy and then defending what he's said?
