Don't know why but Boyd's retirement hit harder than Friend/BMoz maybe its the realization the generational change is well underway at the Roosters, JWH and Toups now the last remaining members of that 2013 premiership team (Liu didn't play in the GF)

As Robbo said today its impossible to replace the presence and leadership that Boyd provided.

One thing I always loved about Cordner was his willingness to get back and take the first hitup when the team was in trouble and on the backfoot, absolutely hate that he wasn't able to leave the game on his terms.

Without doubt a true Roosters legend.

Im out in my garage on my own on the laptop & I log onto the Roosters home page & click on Boyds speech announcing his retirement, I tell ya's the tears just flowed from my eyes, mate its devastating whats happened, the Roosters captain NSW captain & the highest honour of all the Australian Kangaroo's captain has to retire. The toughness Boyd & Jake brought to the Roosters is second to none. To watch 2 young men play with so much ticker for this club I love & have to retire just makes me cry.
He mentioned a few people but for me the 3 comments that stuck out for me where "Robbo is the leader of this club & the Roosters will always be a successful team whilst he is the coach.
Then he said "To Nick, when you think of the Sydney Roosters you think of Nick Politis.
Then he was asked what his biggest achievement had been & he said "PLAYING FOR THE ROOSTERS.

I just want to thank you Boyd for being a champion player for the Roosters & I wish you the best of luck from here on in.

I kind of knew this was coming when they delayed the round 14 return but it is devastating all the same. Cords was a true leader, classy tough and reliable. It is Amazing to think what he has done at such a young age. To think what he might have done without the knee reco’s the torn pec etc. it was like he had to battle injuries his whole career. He will go out a 3 time premiership player, premiership, State and Australian captain. True Rooster legend and as tough as they come.
well done our captain you left nothing on the field.

Congratulations Boyd on what you have achieved for the Roosters & all rep honours it was a privilege to witness you playing. My greatest memory of you will be when you lifted the trophy along with Friendy in 2018 & 2019 when we achieved back to back you will forever be an Eastern Suburbs great!

There's not much more to add. Boyd is a Roosters hero. The starting left edge backrower in the all time Roosters XVII.

The biggest compliment I can give the likes of Boyd, Jake, Aubo and JWH is that they were the pillars of Robbo's 1st age of Roosters dominance; not just because of their talent as players, but because of the quality of men they are.

Robbo has instilled an indelible culture at this club. And Boyd, like Jake, has been at the vanguard.

How can you not love and revere them as mad Roosters fans? This club is like family; and by extension the likes of Boyd and Jake feel like part of an extended family.

I just watched Boyd's retirement speech - its full of those awkward emotional moments where he can't utter another word.
That emotion in not being able to continue, shows how important the game is to him.
He played the game the same way - full commitment and 100% emotion and passion from him.
Those are the essential ingredients in a champion sportsperson.
Boyd Cordner achieved that - He goes out as a champion Rooster.

I’d like to clarify my earlier statement. I didn’t rate Trent when he first got here, in 2012. I changed my mind quickly on him though.

Wow what a statement! Inspirational all the way, i hope these words are never forgotten.

How lucky are we to be living in an Roosters era that has produced players like Boyd Cordner....an outstanding player and person, who retires as one of the greatest players we have ever had since 1908.

                      • That moment when he was asked what the proudest moment of his career was and he said "Being a Rooster" got me so bad.

                        This one hurts different.
