Each week we just take it for granted that we’re going to see the players who we’ve come to know and love the following week, month, year. But we are sometimes robbed of this. And Boyd Cordner retiring is a reminder that things sometimes just don’t turn out the way we expect they will. But we are grateful that we had a chance to watch a player as talented and courageous as Boyd play for the Roosters, NSW and Australia. We are the lucky ones. Thanks Boyd. All the best.

Been a great leader for the roosters, state and country and was absolutely fearless. Always the first to put his hand up for a tough run to get us over the advantage line and a great defender.
Whilst there was a feeling he was only a head knock away from retirement if he returned it's a bit of a shock that he's gone
Widely respected in the game it's a terrible shame that it's ended like this, we can't catch a break the last two years.

You could also add Manu, Crichton, Tuiponua, Butcher boys, Lam, Smith to that list. All under 25 I think. Who says we're an old team? Hutch is 26.

Would have been great to have Cordner lead them.

Guess it'll be Teddy, Morris, JWH, Liu and SST who'll form the leadership team now.
Yeah I forgot all those, they can also be included as well, I hope Manu stays but everyone is going to throw alot his way which worries me but I will stay forever optimistic on him staying.

We're going to have quite a coaching staff.

So devastating. Another Roosters legend retired. Feeling so numb and shattered for Boyd right now, even though clearly his health should come first. I can’t believe he hasn’t played 200 games and I can’t believe, like Jake, we’ll never see him in the RW&B again.

Do you think they will add Jake/Brett and Boyd to the coaching ranks when they are ready to take on such roles as they may have a break from the game or maybe pathways first off as well as doing some work with Reggies and NRL players?- Any news on Fitzy's replacement?

This will be a sad moment for us fans but more importantly for our great captain, his family and all his teammates.

As Robbo says, we move on and the next person steps up. It's the rooster way.

I wonder if Angus will be offered an extended contract now beyond that 1 year contract we just signed him for.

                    New blood coming through

and not one going out on their own terms ! Oh well at least all 3 achieved everything in the game, but goes to show its a tough profession they all chose to be so good at. Jake had the farewell night, now I assume Boyd will also have one at some time later this season where we can all go and give him the send off he so thoroughly deserves !

So sad…amazing career and a roosters legend. Can’t believe we’ve lost three players to premature retirement this year

I was thinking of the 350k rep salary cap relief if that was approved by the NRL?? - Chooks wont get any other cap dispensation for this year for Boyd - for 2022 and 2023 they will as he had 2 years to run on his contract - If the NRL has approved the Medical Retirement that is - Boyd was on 700k a year I understand

They would have the money of the following for 2022- 1.5 or so million possibly?

Jake Friend ( even though signed for 2021 only he was on a year by year contract so money may have been tentatively assigned to his re-signing for 2022 ?)
Brett Morris - same a Friend - money put aside if he played on
Josh Morris - same as above - no news on if he is or isn't playing on
                          Boyd Cordner

Disappointed, but not unexpected I guess. Great player for us and will be missed.

I guess the question now is where to with the cap? A few upgrades are in order; I'd hope we can get someone in too. Brandon Smith (permanent hooker) and Fonua-Blake or Haas (JWH replacement) are right up the top of my list.

                              Beast.
Will always remember him for taking the tough runs. The bloke who followed his runs would be forever grateful.
                              ..it’ll be interesting to see
