  • Official Match Day Thread: Roosters v Dogs

After last weeks massacre it will take more than a thrashing of the Dogs to get back on track. Such a shame we aren’t playing a decent side tonight so we can compete like we should be competing and erase the memory of last game.

The Bondi Wall no longer exists. Our defence is a disgrace. Tonight is just a small step to attempt to get back on track. After losing to Brisbane and being smashed the last two games, our club is an embarrassment. This needs to be fixed!

    Play with pride.

    GO ROOSTERS!

    "Work smarter"! - Bob Hawke

The first "work smarter" thing we should be doing is: stop giving away dumb penalties.
Stop throwing passes for the sake of trying to play razzle dazzle footy.
To start the game, complete our sets and put up a high spiralling bomb on the 5th.
Or if some magic passing move might result in a try, give that a go.

Para: "Standing flat footed and passing the ball to another player standing flat footed is not going to do much good" - Phil Gould.

Oh, and stop tackling people in the head and getting sent off and suspended.

We couldn't be that hopeless today?

Well I must take it more to heart than you. The loses we’ve had to Brisbane and the top sides have been nothing short of embarrassing. Feel what you like. Call it what you like. I’ll just tell the truth and I’ll call it what is was, embarrassing.

Yeh yeh you just keep supporting with pride. Big applause to you. Did you feel much pride after these 3 games? I’ll bet you feel pride when you tell yourself the hooker actually likes you too.

Should be a cricket score, but I will take even an ugly win. Manly losing allows us to just above them on the table. Expect a much improved performance, even with no crowd and shit weather.

Dunno why but I'm a bit scared. We're expected to kick @rse, but the way we're playing (and played against the Drongos) absolutely nothing is guaranteed.

If we keep all our players on the field we should win well, even if we play like crap. Of our 6 losses this year, all but one (v Parra) had a Roosters player sitting in the bin at some stage. Some of these games we were destined to lose anyway, but 7 crucial tries were scored against us in these losses when we were down a player. We almost lost another game - against the Titans - when we were down a man and they scored 3 tries.

Speaking purely hypothetically and without a conspiracy theorist's tin foil cap in sight, if a match official had some kind of subconscious bias against those show pony Roosters and their smart arse coach who exposes their "incompetence", a stricter interpretation of the sin binning rules might conceivably be applied. At the same time, such a match official might choose to be more lenient when dealing with the indiscretions of opposition players. This year I have seen flying knees that break ribs and late head-high tackles on playmakers ignored while a Roosters player was at one stage sin-binned for "cynicism".

But I digress. As someone here has suggested, all we need to do is avoid touching opposition players above the knees and all will be fine.

Just wish it was a 2pm Sunday game with the sun beating down and huge crowd to support - not the no game day feel even with a crowd let alone in lockdown like tonight and a cold slippery surface.

Go chooks. All I want is a good solid win, high percentage plays, high completions, win the penalty count, good team plays and of course the return of the Bondi wall. Go Roosters.

All we can do is play what’s in front of us. Bulldogs are incapable of throwing much at us. We have props who can out sprint their five-eight. Even with a 50 point victory I wouldn’t read much into it. We are playing the worst of the worst.
