Pearce always was and always will be an average first grade footballer, no more no less which i accepted. Off the field he was an Elite FWit that treated this club with utter contempt, he is a a flog of the highest order, which far outweighs any lack of skill as a player.

Walker has a long way to go to reach the bumbling fumbling heights of the Teflon Kid,

I on the other hand think it was a superb play, denying the Dogs another chance with the ball...and making sure the Mighty Roosters won the game.
      All hail the conquering hero.

They should be praising Walker and thanking him for making sure we won the game.
They might care to remember when we led the Storm by a "unbeatable" margin in a game, and they got a chance with the ball...scored 2 tries with little time left on the clock and BEAT us!

Never give a sucker an even break...the "whatever it takes" brigade say.

Anyway, Jake did it a GF...we won.
        Go Jake!

With Lewis on the prowl, having already scored 2 tries, the last thing we needed was the Dogs to get another chance with the ball.
        Walker snuffed out that chance.
        Go Sam!

        Was Sam's play illegal?
        NO.

It didn't look good, and my first thoughts were WTF NO... it seemed very negative to me, but in the end it was a smart play, any other option would have given the dogs a chance to score.

On a side note, as I have said a few times before, Lachlan Lewis is off contract, and would make a great X factor utility for us.

And what 18 yo Sam did, which was in no way deceptive or illegal, and a split second decision to ice a game we already had in the bag - is a disgraceful act of cowardice.

            Yeah right.

And I can honestly say had Cody Walker done the same thing, as someone hypothesised, I would say woopy doop, good on him.
Me too, I’d be pissed that we didn’t get one last play, but if we couldn’t win in the 79.30min prior, then it’s on us anyway.

Age has nothing to do with it. If you are in first grade, play to first grade standard.

That was was somethung you see in under 14’s.

Btw, I don’t really have a problem with it. I just don’t see age being the excuse.

maybe he was worried that someone would tackle him head on head and there'd be no penalty

Robbo praised the final move FWIW...

I loved Manu's comment. It was something like 'hahaha yeah I dunno... I wouldn't run that far'.

The the posters who thought it was a shit go your right.
For those posters who think it was okay then I would love to see your posts if Cody Walker, Jerome Luai, Latrell or Jordon Rapana did it against the Chooks.
                        It was a soft look.

I really can't believe how many people have been offended by this play. Both on the chookpen and in the media. Seriously???? I thought the Fox panel where joking when they interviewed him.

                          1. He didn't do anything illegal. The run was within the rules. People talk about "unsportsman's like." Bending the rules like Melbourne (ala Cam Smith) is "unsportsman like. Not giving your opponents the opportunity to score is always the best way to win.... providing you don't bend the rules. He played the game within the rules - which is completely fair.

                          2. Let's say he attempted a FG, hit the posts and a dullbog picked it up and ran 90m? Or he threw an intercept? While not pretty I know what I would rather watch.

                          3. It's not the first time a player has run the clock down. No one complained when Jake did it in the GF. In 2014 I remember Jarryd Hayne running the ball back 20 odd metres and into touch before throwning the ball into the crowd during SOO. No one complained than.

IMO the real concern isn't that Sam iced the game this way. The concern is that in the 79min the game wasn't already in the bag against the team coming last.

He singled it out as an example of quality game management.

I can see why people would criticise it as a negative play. IMO in an ideal world you will always be coached to stand up right away and run forward rather than farking around and intentionally trying to waste time.

That said, the Bulldogs gave up. If it were the Drizz... I suspect the Fox woulda hunted him down and used his size/strength advantage to strip the ball. It was a valid game management strategy and was not without risks.

I never said it was "okay". I said Walker was trying to snuff out the game. The only thing going through his mind was 100% focus on winning the game. There was no disrespect intended. I am sure Robbo will teach him a more appropriate way to shut out the game.

I will also add that in the 2018 Grand Final Jake Friend was intentionally disrespectful in teasing Cameron Smith on the bell. I don't recall any outrage at the time.

Jake Friends one was different it was nowhere near as soft as that.
If I was the coach I would say to Walker that if you ever do that again you dont play for the Roosters again, you run at the opposition you dont run away from the opposition under any circumstances. Its just a big no no in my eyes dice, I dont want to see the Chooks win a game that way.
