Reading between the lines on this, I get the feeling because this is such a rare injury, in league, it is very much a wait & see issue.

I can't see how it's any different to any other impact-type injury such as a broken bone. I can't imagine any footballer shying away from contact because he was worried about damaging his kidney.

when it happened I thought it to be 8 weeks min poss whole season, a potentially dangerous injury

Great opportunity to give him a run in the centres I say, Moga on the wing for a few weeks to ease him in. Peni will be destructive at centre after a few games, big strong and can read the game quite well from what Iv seen. One to really watch.. Moga and Peni centres eventually would be deadly

How could you compare an injury to a bone, to a ruptured kidney that can result in a mortal injury

Having had a couple of similar kidney issues, I would offer the following comments. When it happens you feel incredibly sick and the pain is intense. The pain is that intense that morphine is required on an ongoing basis. While it is quite serious the potential problems are if there is no treatment or subsequent improvement.

From the sounds of it he is healing. When it starts healing you feel much better very quickly but you still feel rather weak and fragile. Healing is fairly quick if there are no complications (if there were he would still be in hospital).

I am no doctor but I would not expect a professional athlete to be out for more than 8 weeks if all goes well, possibly earlier.
