Spot on. The backline will be different. And If Carney does stay, he will play centre.

When has Smith ever stuck with the named side

I have a feeling that Carney,BJ and Kennedy will all not play. Tagive,Moga and Bosden will all make their way into the team. Mortimer will get the utility bench spot in my opinion.

Carney can't be THAT bad, can he? :/
Who knows he might've picked up on a few things while we weren't looking haha!

Unless he has improved out of sight between now and the trials, Carney can go play for Newtown.

Cannot be bothered reading through the thread, but if Carney is marking either Inglis or King (double his height) we are screwed. Actually, if Carney was marking my 7 year old cousin we'd be screwed.

One of the worst players to ever play for us!

I'm gonna cry, coach Smiffy ruined my life and picked CarnteyCatch.

Fair dinkum some of youse are sheep.

He's at the club, he's not the best player but he's experienced. We have injuries in the backs so it's logical we go with the more experienced players. Smiff is the coach, he's been making these choices for 25yrs or so, the unpopular ones.

And knowing his coaching style, as many have mentioned, changes may occur before kick off. As long as it's not out on the full

It's a long season, many players will be used who aren't the best in their positions. Tearing up 6 days before round 1 is some funny shit.

                    You know it makes sense.

Good reality check. This is a better backline than we fielded for most of 2011....mind you, we didn't win many games in 2011.

well justin is no phil bloody graham, thak god.

iwish smithy would stop play a compressed defencive line we will be exposed. we did this during the 2002 03 04 era and we got exposed. compressed defence is a easy way to show your defencive abilities. simply there are small gaps in the centre of the field and major openings out side. the theory is the side line is like a defence player. if the opposition makes a break down the wing the side line can be used to push the attacking runner out{except for morris in grand finals} or to force the player back inside for the inner center and fullback can clean up the bust.it is very hard for a winger to be in the defencive line, turn around and chase down another winger. compressed defence is no good when defending the try line ,like against the magpies trial game. 3 tries , 2 against carney and one against moga.

interesting tweet from Dr John Orchard

"Roosters will name R1 team squad at season launch tonight. SKD is the only regular senior player ruled out with injury at this stage."

a bit cryptic because of the use of "regular senior player", does this include Moga/Bosden as they are not yet regular senior players, would indicate Kennedy is some hope of actually playing, which I would find it hard to believe given he hasn't played for 11 months and has had no trial hitouts.

the only thing its safe to assume the team named last night by Smith won't be the exact team that runs out on monday night.

If someone would tell Carney to put down the ****ing bucket of KFC and step away from the power rack he might actually get back some of that speed and running game he had at the Raiders and we signed him up for.

Honestly, the bloke ballooned out about 20kg when he broke his leg and has never even tried to lose it.

Meanwhile Tagive featured in a game on Fox last night between the knights and the dragons. Played very well, was safe under the high ball, ran it back at a million miles an hour and also looked threatening down the right flank (although he did drop the ball over the line in the first half). Carney should not be in the side over him.
