I call it cheating.

I don’t have any evidence to accuse him of such but it’s certainly become very suspicious. I find it hard to believe that given all the video analysis refs do on their performances that he is still ignorant to his bias against us so at what point is it on him to fix that and if he doesn’t then is negligence cheating?

Sutton always seems to come up with a new interpretation of the rules every time he officiates us.

Won’t call it cheating but there’s clearly some bias there whether he’s aware of it or not. Makes it really hard to watch games when he’s on because you’re just waiting for that one bizarre, mind scratching moment from him.

This articulates it perfectly. Always some bizarre rule or interpretation that debuts against us.

I get the referees have a hard job, but there are mistakes that are acceptable and there are mistakes that aren't. That one wasn't, and calls like that against top tier opposition can easily be game-defining. The referees genuinely need to held a bit more accountable for calls like that where they completely drop the ball.

As a side note, I can't believe he played advantage for 3 or so play the balls before sin-binning Crichton. Why do they get 90 seconds of advantage, plus a new set, plus the sin-bin? How many advantages are needed for an infringement? Happy to walk the game back several plays to sin-bin Crichton, but won't walk it back to correct the call on Verrills.

Anyone who still thinks that some of the current refs don't influence the result of games with their unconscious (or in cases like tonight conscious) bias needs to rewatch this game.
