  • Warriors have informed the Roosters they intend to make massive offer to Joey Manu

NRL RIVAL’S $1 MILLION PLAY FOR ROOSTERS STAR

The Warriors are set to launch a monster $1 million a season bid for Roosters centre Joey Manu.

The Australian’s Brent Read reported the Warriors have told the Roosters they will make a play for Manu, who is off-contract at the end of 2022, when he is free to negotiate as of November 1.

“It is interesting because there have been some stories lately that the Roosters are desperate to tie Joey Manu down,” Read said on Triple M’s The Rush Hour with MG & Liam.

“He has got one year left on his deal from November 1, which means from November 1 he can start talking to other clubs.

“Someone from the Warriors has already reached out to the Roosters and said out of respect for you and your club we are letting you know right now. We are going to have a red hot go and Joey Manu from November 1.

“This was before the Warriors signed Reece Walsh because they were looking at Joey Manu as a fullback.

“But I understand they are still very keen on Joey Manu. They will look to play him at five-eighth in the No.6 jersey.

“I would imagine the offer for Joey Manu is going to be in the seven figure bracket. He is about to become the game’s next million dollar man.

“As I understand it the Warriors are willing to give him somewhere close to that.

“The Roosters have got a big fight on their hands in the next three months to try and tie Joey Manu down.

“If they can’t he is going to cop a massive offer from the Warriors.”

The 25-year-old has scored 37 tries in 109 games for the Roosters since his debut in 2016 and has three tries in eighth Tests for New Zealand to go with premierships in 2018 and 2019.

If the Warriors offer $1,000,000 a year they can have him, as sad as it will be.

Was just about to post this article. Devastating but it's the harsh reality that other clubs would come swooping in for him to play in a spine position. Couldn't blame him if he got a bigger pay check, better positional offer and for him to go back home. Just hope the Roosters can get something done as it would be a huge loss.

He's not worth 1 million a season, he's not in the top 10 players in the game. If the Warriors want to pay him a million a year to never win a comp & he's happy with that good luck to him.

Lol some clubs are just destined to be stupid and mediocre for all eternity.

Manu should bite their hand off because he's barely worth 3/4s of that figure.

Manu is a brilliant player. But a centre masquerading as a 5/8 or fullback won't define our success.

Sure he's looked good at fullback or 5/8 for us. But it's one thing to do it as a fill in at a great club but another entirely to do it permanently at an utter basket case like the Warriors.

Well that was expected but hopefully Joey will see the bigger picture. Money is great but when it comes with the pressure of having to not only perform and achieve success at a club that has always been a basket case then it may seem less attractive. Look at RTS, all that money and having to be the player who has to dig them continuously out of trouble, it’s no wonder he has taken the option to go to the All Blacks at his age. Had he staid with us, I’m thinking RTS would have been a highly paid player and tasted more success and would have ended his career in league.

If Joey wants to take the money, fine, but he will find that more often than not, he will be standing behind the try line looking at the opposition taking a conversion. I personally think that Joey will be wanting more to stay at a safe environment rather than move for money and have to start all over again and I base my opinion on his character…

If in the end we lose Joey, then let’s get Reece of those worriers… We need to get back at them!

hard to argue with 1m if you can get it but not sure the warriors are on a good trajectory.
still, i think he's worth an upgrade with us. he's a centre but when he gets his hands on the ball he's not far short of being an elite player and his versatility adds to his value

New Zealand is also Joey's home. Here's hoping we can snag a premiership (or two!) before he goes.

Since his family is in NZ and one figures if the offer is close to that then 2022 maybe his last for the Chooks - maybe even before that if released

What is he on at the Chooks I have read between 500 and 700k

As soon as Gus walks out the door they revert from developing young value-for-money players to paying overs for established players.

If roosters offer him 800K a year, then after tax it's only 100K difference from what he'd get at a club with a loosing culture.

                          I reckon we'll keep him.

Unusual for a poacher club to make it's intentions known to the poachee club.

I smell a Souffs rat trying to be too smart for it's own good. (or ability).
