    Fun Fact #2

Brandon Smith is 65-15 as an NRL player – the best winning percentage of any player since 1980.

    Rumour Mill

Brandon Smith is the subject of a three-way tug-of-war with the Roosters, Bulldogs and Storm all looking to secure his services.

NICK TEDESCHI wraps up the week in rugby league in From The Couch. PVL Saves The Day Again Saturday loomed as a complete disaster when all three NRL games were cancelled with Queensland entering a snap lockdown. The Queensland Government acted with a heavy hand declaring no professional sport would be played for three days. […]

I say no to signing him myself - stick with what they have in the dummy half role.

Add depth to the outside backs as one would assume J Morris will retire at years end - leaving outside backs from Manu/B Smith/Suaalii/Toops/Ikuvalu/Keighran/ - Karawalevu maybe in the 30 next year and the GT Twins could still be on development contracts next year and not available for NRL until after June 30.

A few other youngsters in the mix as well and will need some decent standard footy since 2020 was a wipe out year and now this period of no footy in 2021.

I knew this was on the cards weeks ago. Like the Cronk signing, a person I talked to protested too much when I asked about Brandon Smith.

Lets see what Gus's impact will be here. For the wooden spooners to be named in the same company as the Chooks & Storm is purely because of him & a lesser degree Laundy. I predict that they wont finish in the 8 next year so Gus will punt Barrett who is not a top NRL coach & they will then buy another 2 top players possibly B Smith & a new coach possibly someone like Bennett or possibly someone like Ciraldo & become a top 4 side again.

            Thompson
            B Smith ?????
            Hetherington
            Pangai Jnr
            Elliot
            Jackson
            ????
            Burton
            Cotric
            Naden
            Schoupp
            JAC
            Meaney/Allen

            Faitala-Mariner
            Seumanufagai
            Stimson
            Waddell

Jackson Topine (forward) & Bailey Biondi- Odo (back) have big raps on them. They have the nucleus of a good side .

Melbourne has laid down a big offer it hopes can entice gun utility forward Brandon Smith to stay in the Victorian capital beyond his current deal.
The Daily Telegraph reports the Storm have tabled a new deal to the hooker-lock that is worth $600,000 per season.
They will have to fight with as many as six rival NRL clubs for Smith, including the Roosters and Bulldogs.

Surely the Chooks can do better than that. 600k per season is a steal for Smith. He's one of the best players in the game.

The original comments in this thread suggested Smith was going to be offered $1 million per year.
                Then $800K is tossed around.
Now reports that the Storm have offered him $600K per year - and his manager is content with that......
For one of the most damaging forwards in the league.....
The media is full of bullshit. B Smith is supposed to be happy with $600K, yet we have to offer $1 million to retain Manu.
More crap media designed to derail our club.
IMO both players are worth somewhere in the middle of the $600K - $1 million price range.
                I would narrow that down to $700 - $800K
                No more, no less.
And don't listen to the million that the Warriors or Bulldogs offer - who in their right mind wants to play for a shit team?

Could an offer of $700k be enough to entice him over?
Would Jason Ryles be a help?

Is it the lure of a little bit more money or the starting hooker?
He won't get the latter at the Storm with Harry there.
Will Robbo promise him that over Verrills? Everyone will have their preference and most will say Verrills should start but it will depend on what Robbo offers.
I can't see him coming if he is going to start off the bench each week as a backup hooker or lock.

                      Agreed.

He would start for me every game.
                      Verrills off the bench.
But I can see him and Rads suspended for a few weeks of the year each thou?
Throw in rep footy as well.

If he comes here it wont be as a back up.

Look I like Verrills but he aint half the player Smith is

If he comes here I don't think it will be guaranteed he plays one position only. Robbo would have a 'discussion ' about his expectations first.

If Australia ever gets back to some sort of normality then I think Easts may open the cheque book whilst considering our return to the re opening of the SFS next year.

Like I posted earlier surely the Chooks can do better than 600k.
The guy is the player that would thrust the Roosters back to the top. He would be the starting 9 no question. Imagine him Teddy Keary & Walker. Serious that is DEADLY.

My idea of a floating /non designated dummy half may come to fruition - just have to train players to jump into dummy half when and if required -closest player to where the tackle is made so you don't have two players trying to be the dummy half or confusion of who is the dummy half.
