Saturday’s three NRL games are set to be called off as Queensland enters a snap lockdown from 4pm due to a Covid outbreak.
Dragons and Rabbitohs face each other at 3pm in Rockhamption, while a double header at Suncorp Stadium was set to take place.
The Knights and Raiders were due play at 5.30pm, followed by the anticipated grand final rematch between the Storm and Panthers at 7.35pm.
However, six new local cases were confirmed on Saturday morning forcing the Queensland government to announce a snap lockdown.
It comes as the Queensland Rugby League made the call to cancel the Queensland Cup games that were to be played in Townsville this weekend.
According to reports, the NRL is in talks with the Queensland government to gain an exemption for the three games to go ahead.

Queensland health chief Dr Jeanette Young has announced that the remainder of this weekend’s NRL and AFL games in the state have been called off due to a recent outbreak of Covid.
Dr Young confirmed the news when asked by a reporter what the status of the NRL games would be, and whether crowds would be able to attend.
“No, there will be no football matches,” Dr Young said.
“So, no community sport, no professional sport, nothing for the next three days. Starting as of 4:00pm today.”
Both leagues had teams move into bubbles in Queensland, but with the new outbreak, it has thrown the future of both competitions up in the air.
The state had already played host to a number of games in Round 20 of the NRL, but all Queensland-based AFL games have been called off as well.
The full list of cancelled NRL games include the Newcastle Knights v Canberra Raiders, Melbourne Storm v Penrith Panthers, Canterbrury Bulldogs v Gold Coast Titans and the Cronulla Sharks v Manly Sea Eagles.
For the AFL, the games that won’t go ahead for the moment are the Gold Coast Suns v Melbourne Demons, Essendon vs Sydney Swans and GWS Giants v Port Adeliade.

then just to rub our noses in it even more ..... will tune into to watch the Sunday Footy Show on Ch9 only to see yet again Gladys Kravitz telling us not to go anywhere, Dr Kerry reading out case numbers, and the police comm telling us how many arrests they've made !Comment

Apparently Knights and Raiders in a mad scramble to get to Townsville so the game be played there. Saints stuck in their Brisbane hotel so doubtful whether they can get to Rockhampton in time for the Souths vs Saints game there.Last edited by horrie hastings; 07-31-2021, 12:44 PM.Comment

South Sydney players are sitting on the plane in Rockhampton. They can’t get off. One player saying they have “no idea” what’s going on. The upside to this, assuming the comp gets back after this week, is that other teams will have to play catch up and either forced to play 2 games in short turnarounds or extend the comp for a week, while we take a week off to recover.
