To Win the Comp

If Easts are to win the comp there has to be a significant change in tactics

To date Melbourne,Penrith and Souths have our measure...what worked in 2018 and 2019 premiership victories,just doesn't cut it in 2021

Robbo and the Roosters trust just won't try short kickoffs...madness.....in the Souths thrashing in 2020 and the Storm thrashing this year,Easts failed to even try short kickoffs...crazy

the Roosters have one of the best jumpers/leapers in Daniel Tupou...yet we fail to utilise his skills!!...why???

A short kickoff can give a team a massive advantage..if it comes off.....it gives possession,around half way...and it means that the opposition is defending..not attacking..

if Easts are to win the competition.....using Daniel Tupou's jumping skills can help achieve it

the same old same long kickoffs just don't cut it any more.....

Instead of being so predictible......mix it up boys...mix it up

Mate if Melbourne, Penrith and Vermin had our injuries we would have their measure. We don't need to rely on low percentage plays, we need to fix up our defence. We need to be aggressive and use our defence as attack. Like we did in our premiership years.

I cant recall an attacking high kick to Topou all season, am I wrong?
Melbourne and Penrith have an excellent power running game. They run hard and fast and they are steered around well, very rarely making a game management error.
The key for us is winning the middle and managing the game as well, if not better than our opponent. And defence of course.

For those who don't think Easts should change tactics against the Three Top Sides,consider these damning statistics:

Roosters last 4 games against Melbourne.......LOSS,LOSS,LOSS,LOSS

Roosters last 3 games against Penrith............LOSS,LOSS,LOSS

Roosters last 3 games against Souths..............LOSS,LOSS,LOSS

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is what they call...Wishful Thinking

as for offering up the excuse of injuries.for losses against the Top sides....forget it...all squads have injuries

I think our problem against those top teams is that we are kicking off too often.

It’s not easy to admit but those 3 sides have an extra gear that we don’t with half of the team out. I’d argue we win the whole thing with a full team but it’s not to be. The main disadvantage is in our kicking game, Reynolds/Cleary/Hughes/Munster have variety and can catch the defence off guard whereas Hutch and Walker don’t have much of that.

for me it's one game at a time. sure, kicking more to toops' wing on last tackle plays is a good idea but basically we've just to build on what we've been doing the last 4 weeks, keep on improving and don't look too far ahead. when we get to the finals it starts at nil all and with a bit of luck we'll go alright
